Description
Did you know the Plantsim Baby object from the Sims3 has a texture map that's very compatible with the Sims 4's new infant lifestate?WELL IT DOESN'T!
I had made a Plantsim Baby object that a Sim could interact with and felt pretty good about that. It went with my Plantsim Objects. It involved cutting out the face of the object and pasting on the Sims4 baby's face and transferring some weights for it to do some basic animations. I made it so that non-Plantsims could do the "it's so ... cute?" animation and Sims could build relationships with it. All I had to do was change it from a baby object to a game object and all the interactions that it couldn't do (since it was a totally custom object and not tied to something that could be held) would just not show up! I even made a crib with soil in it based off the fairy crib!
And then the infant update happened and just ruined all that!
Well, there's just no letting an idea die! If Babies are Sims then that object you see for all of a second can be a damned costume! So that's exactly what I did. I made it a whole costume. But infants have different proportions to newborns so I took the infant head and remapped it to work with the Sims 3 object's texture map. And, gotta say, AI resizers. This project couldn't have happened without them. I can't remember which I used for this one. I tried several free ones until I found one which worked. Despite using several low quality texture maps in the past I don't think it'd have done the job here.
The hair is not alpha CC. I can, at least, make curved planes using a combo of Adobe Animate and Blender. At first I just traced all three, but then I did one and duped it twice over creating the depth that the texture just implied before, saving my first attempt for a lower LOD.
Also, the outfit won't hide hats. It'll clip right through them, but it won't hide them outright. Less realistic, but it'll add personality. I even got the gums matching!
But having an armless, legless, Plantsim infant won't cut it for everyone. I know this. So I also made it a hairdo. It's, basically, the entire head. You can think of it as the parents unwrapping the baby at this point, I guess. It has a skintone attached to the head (otherwise the head alone would be kinda off). However, because it's hair some hats do make it disappear and then your baby looks just like a regular Sim.
Finally we have a diaper based off the Sims 3's. This time I morphed the texture to match the one found in 4, unlike my previous attempt to convert 3's mesh to work with 4. I think this worked a bit better, but the results aren't seamless.
With this you can finally have Plantsim infants look like Plantsim infants!
