Yeah I often have to merge textures in clumps, basically even dot/line and gritty markings are on a separate layer building up the image slowly. I turned around this image quite drastically, originally the girl was heavily drawn in ink with splashes galore and thick dark lines outlining her shape. I didn't like it as I started to build up the layers, looked to dark and 'forced' so in a late stage I started to paint her white and intensify the lighting. Most of the gritty markings were lost or can be seen very faintly underneath the whites.
