Description Thought I'd throw up the before and after image of my recent promo shoot for local aussie band Pain Division

Taken with a very professional setup

Small recording studio room, 2xPink (no black on hand) bedsheets taped to the wall, 2x 100W strobes (one of which ended up in smoke & leaking haha) setup on either side of the band...though the one synced to my camera was significantly brighter, Canon 40D w/ Tamron 28-75mm f2.8, handheld, myself + the band

Lights off, strobes set to model lamp, so I could auto focus....it was fairly dark

EXIF data from this shot -
Canon 40D
1/200sec
f/11.0
ISO320
28mm
Spot Metering
White Balance manually set to 5600k

Post Processing done in Adobe Photoshop CS

-Using the magic wand tool + magnetic lasso, I selected around each of the band members & painted the background black
-Auto levels + Auto Colours
-+7 Contrast
-Selective colouring - Black +2
-Dodge tool - set to Highlights at 10%, brushing of the face
-Colour burn - set to Highlights, slight brushing of the arms & tattoos
-Duplicate Layer - Channel Mixer - set to Monochrome
-Contrast - +10 or so
-Soft light layering
-Set opacity to 25%
-flatten image
-Unsharp Mask

And we're done

To tell you the truth I actually rather like the pink background, it gives a nice contrast. The post-processing work is very well done though

if you put a strobe in the bac of the sheets it woulda gotten rid of the shadow casted, but sinc eit was taped to the wal i guess that wasnt possible, i did that in a fotoshoot once and it did wonders gettin rid of the shadows caste donto the sheets

yeh i've heard of that method....creates a nice coloured halo too doesn't it?

I've only got 2 strobes to work with now & I am not sure if the one at the back will trigger seeing as it goes off when the other flashes....is there a way to sync BOTH up to my cam body?

Can you get a splitter or something?

yeh I got no idea....it only came with a sync for each light....it can probably be done with a wireless transmitor, but that'd cost more than the lighting itself >.<

there has to be a way to sync them liek a daisy chain though.... it doesn tmake sense for it not to be linkable....

good luck

only my second....hoping for more if it's possible - I find it harder to control light rather than work with what I have infront of me

bands don't ask me for shoots very often these days, which is a shame!!
