Description
Logical-mathematical intelligence is the ability to calculate, quantify, consider propositions and hypotheses, and carry out complete mathematical operations. It enables us to perceive relationships and connections and to use abstract, symbolic thought; sequential reasoning skills; and inductive and deductive thinking patterns. Logical intelligence is usually well developed in mathematicians, scientists, and detectives. Young adults with lots of logical intelligence are interested in patterns, categories, and relationships. They are drawn to arithmetic problems, strategy games and experiments.

I’m already regretting my decision to make backgrounds for all of these. DX
Sooo, after that embarrassing walk through the woods, here’s Dipper’s time to shine! He is unquestionably the most Mathematically intelligent one in the group, and it shows in every thing he does, from his fascination with codes and puzzles to his love of strategy games… even the weird, creepy list he made when he was trying to impress Wendy. ^^ The maths and sciences is where Dipper really shines, and he knows it and he loves it. He also loves when these skills are challenged, which is one of the reasons why he goes looking for mysteries in Gravity Falls even though it often puts him in mortal peril. We’ve heard tell that Dipper gets good grades, but I’m willing to bet that he’s one of those kids who gets bored in school because he understands things faster then his peers do, so the level he’s being taught at is too easy. He probably teaches himself a lot while the teacher is busy repeating the same lesson so it sinks in with the rest of the class.
Dani is actually pretty good with numbers too, in a more applied sense. She’s handled her own money ever since leaving Vlad, so she learned how to budget. Speaking of Vlad, I kind of have a headcanon that he did in fact teach Dani to play chess when she was under his care, as a way of assessing her intelligence and teaching her how to think strategically before he sent her to collect Danny. Dani didn’t really touch the game again after ditching Vlad, but dusts off her skills to go up against Dipper one day at the Shack. Dipper beats her most games, but she’s still pretty good and manages to win a handful of times and she’s a far cry better then Mabel.
Speaking of the female half of the Mystery twins, Mabel is NOT a numbers girl, in any way, shape of form. We saw in Little Dipper that she’s not a chess girl, and Boss Mabel showed us that money management isn’t her forte, either. She does seem to have some skills with applied physics, such as Mini Golf, but I think that’s more Body-Smart then Numbers-Smart. If you asked Mabel to explain to you how she managed to sink a particular hole-in-one, she’d probably just shrug and say she hit the ball at the doo-hickey so it’d bounce into the thingamajig and go swoosh to land in the hole. Dipper would be the one who would break down the actual science of the shot and explain the ball’s spin and velocity and the transfer of energy and all that fun stuff, even if he couldn’t actually make a similar shot himself to save his life. XDD She’s thrilled at first when Dipper and Dani find common ground when it comes to chess, but quickly feels left out and bored when they get absorbed in the game and leave her on her lonesome. Eventually she tells them this, and they set the game aside whenever Mabel’s around to avoid hurting her feelings, but whenever Mabel goes to play with Candy and Grenda or does something on her own and leaves Dipper and Dani to their own devices, the two usually go back to chess.

yeah, I can see this happening: good news: Dani and Dipper found their "Check Mate"; bad news: if they continue like this, Mabel may die of boredom (or at least wish this would happen)

Hmm, not sure about the numbers thing, but cool

You mean Dani? It's just my headcanon. People don't have to share it if they don't want to, but I think it makes sense for Dani to have a pretty good grasp of math in order to keep herself alive, since she doesn't have anyone taking care of her so she has to manage her own money, both in terms of making it and spending it, and she has to be smart about it since no legal business would hire a twelve year old orphan with no social security or papers or any kind of documentation on her existence. And Vlad is big on the chess analogies, which is why I figured he'd teach it to her.

I guess I've just seen a lot of stories where that isn't the case. It's not like I don't think it's possible though

I've noticed that people tend to think that Dani's exactly like Danny, except a girl, and thus write her that way, but I don't think that's the case at all. I think Dani has her own strengths and weaknesses. There are some things she has in common with Danny, but she's still her own person and should be treated like that.
Besides, I really only think Dani's good at using numbers in a practical, real world sense. When it comes to solving equations or doing math as it's presented in school, she'd probably struggle (assuming she bothered to do it at all. I have a feeling she'd probably find the entire school experience annoying and dumb and impractical, and hate everything about it).
