Description
This is a progressive vector which I have been wanting to do for a while. It is not really finished but haven't put anything up for a while (waiting to finish a roll of film). After saving this image, illustrator chucked a spaz and decided not to save everything I had worked on that day. So I've pretty much only got the roots saved as an eps.Related content

i agree with the comment above.
the lines on-top are too thin.

some pretty detailed vector work... really like the simplicity of this piece in its entirety... very effective.

nice, i love vector work for its simplicity, but this has added a level of complexity that grabs my attention.
i think the tree is great but i love the vines.
have you ever done any symbol work?

ah...like symbology maybe
i really dont know what i was trying to say
maybe like...tatoo style sort of stuff
basic vectors, black and white...?
i really dont understand myself sometimes...which makes it hard for others

symbol work? what do you mean by this?

nice work but hte thin lines up the top do nothing for me. I think without them it would have had some great balance and strength.

I don't know enough about vector art to comment really, but I live the lines in this. Beautiful piece.

It does have a very nice flow to it. Though, the person seems to be, somewhat, out of place, though I can't say why.

thanks, the person was a last minute addition. I got a pre release crit, and was told it needed more balance. so i added the dude and bubbles. Probably looks a bit out of place because it isn't an exadurated element like everything else. im sure in ater versions of this, ill figure out what actually fits and what doesnt. Everyone seems to have a different opinion on what is actually fitting. Ill have to leave it for a few days and look at it fresh! thanks for the crit.

Veruy crisp and simple. The concept and events in the pic are nicely detailed still though. I like the tree's roots especially

thanks! yeah, the roots are what i started with, so all my energy went into it i guess. im still trying to perfect the tree style, i dont think paint splatters are really fitting anymore.

i know little about vector art but
frsitly: i love the concept and how you've approached it
there's a lot of variety in this-which means its successful as a silohette work like this.
Only thing id say doesnt look right is the style/simplicity of newton and the apples=compared to the style on the tree

Genetrix205 In reply to etherealwords [2005-02-05 09:26:10 +0000 UTC]
haha newton and the apples? you have read into it too much. while i can see where you have come from, newtons gravitational theory extrapolated from a falling apple and darwin's theory of evolution are often mixed up i guess? The apples aren't really apples, they're just a designery thing i like in vector. In fact everyone does it to death. I just like them. I don't credit myself for using them as its a design element that can just as easily be emulated in mspaint which makes me vomit a bit everytime i think of it. I agree though, i think the style of the tree can do with a little simplicity and maybe a bit more "viney" to fit in with its roots. You should have seen my initial tree, it was REALLY bad. In the next few weeks im going to try working on a new tree. Im finding it a real challenge at the moment. Thanks for the crit!
