This is such an amazing, unique landscape considering where the Macin Mountains are located... Did you take the picture during the summer time? I've only been there in winter and I'm hoping to get back to this place when there's a few green plants at least ^^'

amazing indeed..this is the oldest land from Romania and has the same age with mountains from Great Britain and Norway..and yes, I did took the pictures during the summer time and climbed it until the top, reaching the Tutuiatu top, 467m high..and I revisited this place this year, during April, but this time I chosed another rute, deep through the forest and visited a small and narrow cave

so glad you like it!^^ ..yes..you may say that..I own this camera for 3 years, and since the moment I bought it, can`t stop taking pictures with it ..still, and upgrade is obviously since my D40 is getting old and outdated!

That's encouraging. I've had my D3100 for 7 months and it scared me to start with. I'm starting to get the idea at last.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geographu In reply to MayEbony [2011-08-03 05:06:34 +0000 UTC]

you're lucky with D3100 since is much more easy to work with..with his 11 AF points (with 3D tracking) and more sensitive sensor..not to mention you may shooting at ISO 100, wich I can't with my D40, where ISO200 is the minimum so squeeze that D3100 at his best because it has what it takes!

Thank you so much! My son has just got an SLR camera too so I have someone to share tips with and learn from in person. That will be such a help! He's got a D300 second hand but he will find out everything it can do LOL

Thank you for your encouragement

geographu In reply to MayEbony [2011-08-04 05:53:05 +0000 UTC]

you said SLR..and D300 is a DSLR, so he has 2? a D300 and a SLR (like the F3 from Nikon) or I missunderstand?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MayEbony In reply to geographu [2011-08-04 11:24:21 +0000 UTC]

That's OK. I have a Nikon D3100 and my son has a Nikon D300.

The hard bit to understand was "My son has just got an SLR camera too". That means that I have a camera and my son has a camera also.

Too = also = as well. English is very hard to understand. You are very good at English

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geographu In reply to MayEbony [2011-08-04 12:45:52 +0000 UTC]

Heh..I did understand the part with you both having a camera, but I was intrigued by the fact that D300 is a DSLR not a SLR..so there my .. I'm not that good at English..I've become rusty in the last years, wich is sad

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MayEbony In reply to geographu [2011-08-04 13:01:09 +0000 UTC]

His D300 does not use film. Definitely digital.

Your English is 100% better than my Romanian Try to keep it fresh, but it will rush back to you when you need it. I learned French in high school (I've just turned 55!) and it comes back amazingly well when I need it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geographu In reply to MayEbony [2011-08-04 13:45:05 +0000 UTC]

exactly..D300 is a D-SLR all day long! ..the F-series are Nikon SLR's ..SInce you mentioned French, well, this is my primary language, I've learned it from the 2nd grade and English until 4th grade, but I liked English more and I must thanks for that to the Cartoon Network Channel ..me and others from my age we've learned english due this cartoon channel

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MayEbony In reply to geographu [2011-08-04 14:13:42 +0000 UTC]

I don't know anything about the F-series. My D3100 scared me for the first few months I owned it LOL

Wow, you know a lot of languages! I'm slowly studying German but teaching myself with the help of Google Translate and a few hints from DA members. LOL about the Cartoon Network. My little grand-daughter (about to turn 6 next week) says some words with an American accent because of Dora the Explorer. She also knows a little Spanish for the same reason. TV isn't all bad

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geographu In reply to MayEbony [2011-08-04 15:29:11 +0000 UTC]

why? D3100 is such intuitive and easy to use you have 11 AF-points, I have to please myself with only 3..therefore I shoot on MF lately..in my country, English and French is a must be in schools, almost every compatriot of mine knows a few words in english..and after those, comes German, Italian, Spanish as foreign languages to learn in school! ..Cartoon Network shifted my childhood in a good way..to bad today is dubbed, making a big mistake! TV is good if you know what to choose to watch from it!

About the camera. I started photography when I got an instamatic (film, obviously) camera for my 11th birthday in 1967 and continued with automatic everything cameras until last Christmas. I did get digital cameras as soon as they were available but shutter and aperture were just words to me and ISO was whichever film the shop had sold me in the past. I forgot what ISO meant when I went digital. So when I got the SLR I knew nothing. I like to know everything LOL Biiiiig learning curve. I hate the 11 point AF. I use one point and put it where I want it. I won't be told what to do by a machine ROFL. I love it that all those languages are available to your compatriots to learn - I guess because you're all on the European continent. Here the kids can learn French or Japanese in high school. We're closer to China than either of those! Very odd.

geographu In reply to MayEbony [2011-08-05 04:27:39 +0000 UTC]

Wow! You're so lucky to met photography at such a young age! I discovered this passion 8 years ago..yeah..film cameras were eaten by digital age! I would love to work with film camera wich I think you can establish a closer touch with photography in this way..since you can even smell the photography, literally! ..and yes, 11 AF-points are for lazzy ones ..Europe has his magic thing, that who makes Europe to be Europe! ..also, Australia is for me the main explication for Heaven!

MayEbony In reply to geographu [2011-08-05 08:50:20 +0000 UTC]

My grandfather was quite a good photographer and I went to his camera club meeting with him a few times. He gave me a love of photography that I am now sharing with my almost 6 year old grand-daughter. Met a girl yesterday who prefers to use film cameras. I love digital. Click, click x 1,000. No expense and you can see straight away what you're doing wrong LOL. I was born in England and lived there until I was 15. Australia now for almost 40 years and I love it. Yes, Australia is Heaven.

I wish I had sibling like you did, to love photography and I to learn from them..so that's why I jumped straight to digital era ..yes..digital cameras have many advantages..from the liveview to the unlimited shots taken..you're so lucky to live there..if I would left my country, Australia would be the place I wanna move in!

I think winter is cold here but Perth never has snow and the night temperature is between 2°C and 10°C usually. Daytime can sometimes be wet but usually 18 - 22°C. Snow is only on the mountain tops nearly 4,000 kms away between Sydney and Melbourne. Our summer can be 38° - 42° and I love that

geographu In reply to MayEbony [2011-08-05 11:40:06 +0000 UTC]

Like I said..you are so lucky! I love the heat and 42° temperatures ..I love summer and hate winter! ..Here winter temperatures can drop under 15°C,16°C ..and snow is present for days, even weeks during winter days!

We can share photos LOL Maybe one day you will get to Australia but if you like heat make sure not to come in June, July or August.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geographu In reply to MayEbony [2011-08-08 10:17:13 +0000 UTC]

I wish to come that day..someday ..why not to come? it's the wet season ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MayEbony In reply to geographu [2011-08-08 11:36:33 +0000 UTC]

If you want to visit Darwin or Cairns and the north of Australia then do not come in December or January as that is the wet season and the cyclone season. If you want to visit between Brisbane and Perth or further south then avoid June, July, August because it is cold and we can have rain. For a true Aussie summer choose December, January or February for the southern half of Australia. You will get sun and heat. Perth has the very best beaches in the world in my opinion and I have seen a lot of the others!

a true guide for Australia ..perfect..exactly when here, in my country the snow drops, in Australia is warm and beautiful the perfect way to escape the ugly winter Queensland seems to be a great place too..and of course..the Great Barrier Reef ..most amazing place on Earth

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MayEbony In reply to geographu [2011-08-09 10:42:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Queensland is nice. My husband went snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and says that the colours of the fish and coral were incredible. Cairns is the closest place to access the reef but the beaches are nicer further south and you can still get to the reef. The Whitsunday Islands have a variety of places to stay and can organise boat or helicopter trips to the reef, including glass bottom boats. It's worth the trip that's for sure.

There's a massive expanse in the middle of Oz that's just scrub (sandy, rocky and with only short bushes), but the edges are spectacular LOL And Ayers Rock (Uluru) in the middle but I have not been there.

MayEbony In reply to geographu [2011-08-09 11:44:41 +0000 UTC]

Yes I should visit Uluru. We stopped at Alice Springs airport in 1999 but only long enough for me to be sick outside the airport doors with a whole row of taxi drivers watching me. Then we had to get back on the plane that had made me sick to fly to Darwin. I don't travel well ROFL Have you looked at my holiday stories and photos www.mayl.id.au ?

Thank you. That's the only real writing I do but I really enjoy doing it. My friends all say they can take a holiday any time they want by reading it LOL Our next holiday will probably be in November but we haven't decided where we're going yet. Maybe the other Club Med resort in Indonesia but who knows. We've been to 2 Club Meds now and enjoy the format. Somewhere warm and not too far away anyway. Actually it'll be heading into cyclone season further north by November, so perhaps somewhere in the southern half of Oz. Have you travelled to many countries?

I've been lucky. I grew up in England and have visited Wales, Scotland, France (11 times), Italy (about 7 times), Switzerland, Monaco, Luxemborg, Belgium, Germany (briefly), South Africa (even more briefly). Then lived in Oz and have visited Hawaii, Singapore, Fiji and Bali. Very fortunate I know!
