Honestly, just get started and keep practising ^^
I'm mostly self-taught and I just tended to learn things as I went along, however, some of the things I got wrong at first and tend to keep in mind whilst painting are:
Β Don't worry too much about having perfect line-art. I work from a rough sketch which I clean up a little on a new layer- I Β Β Β just use this sketch as a base when I paint on a layer above it.Β
Β The airbrush is good for getting smooth textures and can give a good impression of lighting but try not to rely on it too much. Use textured brushes to build up shading with more depth.Β
Β Analyse painting work by artists you really like. Trying to emulate as many different interesting styles as you can (without directly copying of course!) will actually help you find your own style
I recommend watching these videos. They're by one of my favourite artists and the techniques she uses are easy to get a feel for but are also very effective.

It still amazing tho. I like the color scheme because each of them compliments the other plus the contrast aaaahhh I love it so much. Despite being only a digital painting I can still see the motion of Undyne, their emotions, and it has an impact toward the audience. I love your style of lighting and blending of colors.

Oh man! why has no one commented on this awesome art for the contest. This is amazing! I love the poses of this and man it's like I am standing right next to Frisk. I also love the attention to the armor shine and the background. Just it is one of the best undyne the undying pics that I have seen.
