Description
Chimera walked through a clearing, sorely missing Harper, as were the rest of the people back at the Avatar station. This was the eighth week that Harper was missing, since the day that he vanished. He didn't actually vanish into thin air; it was just another morning at the mountain station. Everyone got up as usual, but Harper was missing. There were no traces that he walked off into the Pandoran jungle, no faint hints of Harper, anywhere apart from his usual spot was.She was seeking out the Hunter, who three years earlier, had impaled Harper on his massive blade that could he sprung from a box on the Hunter's arm. The Hunter was, in accordance with his name, was one of his race's Hunters, who were the warriors and fighters of his kind. Chimera knew that he could track down Harper. She had followed the Hunter once, and watched him track down an injured Sturmbeast over 300 miles. If he could tell one single Sturmbeast from a whole herd of them, Finding Harper would be a piece of cake.
Chimera punched a tree over in frustration. How could the most vivid being on Pandora hide so easily! But she turned around and saw smoke coming from his house's chimney. There he was! She thought.
The Hunter was sitting comfortably in a wooden chair, smoking a cigar and watching the sun set over the legendary Hallelujah Mountains. Chimera walked to him, and as he made no reaction except for a turn of his head towards her. He raised a cup to his lips and took a sip. Chimera advanced slowly, and was surprised to hear a calm voice within her head. "Good afternoon. What do you come to me for?"
Chimera was amazed. All earlier times she had met the Hunter they had begun, and ended, with both Hunter and her, or her friends, being horribly wounded, usually by the hand of the Hunter. To see him calm and simply relaxing was as rare as another one of her kind.
The Hunter took another sip of his drink and Chimera heard his voice inside her head again. "It is certainly a long way from your home, or structure of whatever. Why did you seek me out?" Chimera swallowed her shock and begun to ask her question.
"I have come here to ask you a favor. A great favor, for which I shall repay you with whichever way I can." The Hunter drank down his drink, put out his cigar and sat up straight, obviously paying attention. "There is someone missing from our encampment. Someone close to me." Chimera felt a tear well up in her eye. She wiped it away. The Hunter's face was impassive, but she could see that his mind was twinged by her plight. "He went missing eight weeks ago-"
The Hunter jumped up onto his feet as Chimera heard his voice in her head. "Eight weeks? Why did you not come to me earlier?" Chimera explained, and as she did, he gathered his equipment. He told her to follow him. Heh, she thought. The Hunter was a fast being, but she could easily follow him. Or so she thought.
"Have you got anything belonging to him, personal belongings, tools, clothes, things like that?" queried the Hunter.
"Yes. I'll lead you to our settlement."
The Hunter tilted his head, interested. They both walked back to the Avatar Station. Langley, Epstein and Kai all, naturally, reacted aggressively. Epstein and Langley both raised their guns, Kai readied himself for a fight, and Chimera leaped in between the two parties.
"NO! Stop!" Chimera shouted, much to the confusion of Langley and Epstein. Kai simply sat down.
"What the heck are you doing with that thing, Chimera?" the Avatars yelled in shock. Chimera explained to the Avatars. Afterwards, All the Avatars stared in great shock. But they all knew that Harper was important to Chimera, so they agreed to enlist the Hunter's help.
Only minutes afterwards, Chimera was part of a large posse that was dedicated to finding and hunting down Harper. The Hunter did not speak, but it was clear that he knew that what he was doing. Soon, they all started moving.
The Hunter's lumbering walk was deceptive. He kept up a hard pace as he tore through the jungle. Chimera, even in her dragon form, quickly became tired. The Hunter seemed to have the metabolism of a gun dog, with boundless amounts of energy. Signs even the Na'vi would have missed seemed as clear as day to the Hunter. Every footprint, every wet smudge of a fingerprint against the trunks of trees, everything that carried the scent of Harper, was easily picked up by the keen senses of the Hunter. The Hunter seemed to have no bounds of energy, especially with the amount of gear he was carrying.
Chimera, Langley, Epstein and Kai were tired. The Hunter always kept a distance forward, stopping at times to tell them all to hurry up. Everyone was almost at the point of giving up when the hunter stopped at a point just outside an RDA Outpost. The Hunter then told them all this:
"He was last at the surface here." The Hunter crouched, pulled at something, and pulled up a set of broken handcuffs. "Bound, and imprisoned."
The Hunter looked over at the base, and saw a lot of RDA activity. "This must be an underground structure. His scent lies heavily around the doors." No-one asked how he knew this as he drew his speargun. "I suspect that we will need to kill all the RDA soldiers there."
Epstein tried to take command. "Ok, we'll just get the clans and attack this base."
The Hunter raised his speargun and impaled two RDA grunts with the 15-metre bolts. "We
won't need to. I will walk in and kill everything."
Everyone stared at the Hunter, who began walking and firing. The RDA were powerful force in great numbers, but they were not invincible. Many humans fell, whereas the Hunter seemed unscratched.
Time went by and the Hunter disappeared into the underground levels. Soon, all sounds stopped and the Hunter appeared in the doors, carrying over his shoulder Harper, unconscious. Everyone cheered and the Hunter started to walk away.
Chimera again heard the Hunter's voice, only for her mind. "I have completed the favor you asked of me. When i call for your help, you must help, no questions asked." And with these words he walked away.
