I have a 1:24 scale diecast of this same car, and came very close to buying a street legal version back in the 80ies (the seller was asking $3k!)

I have almost the same story and the R.P. die cast too. Β
A neighbor down the street wanted $4,500.00 dollars for his and he was the original owner. Β He had all the paperwork to it and even the window sticker. Β The car was low miles- always garaged and spotless. Β Β Β
When I was a kid I can remember these things lined up at the dealerships like rows of F-15 at an air base.
When they were new- the dealerships couldn't give them away! Β

$4500 is probably what he paid for it too

There's a missed chance even if it wasn't in the best of shape.

Aside from the lime green and black paints having faded it was in remarkably good shape for a Northern car; the seller was going overseas with the Canadian Forces and had to sell the car to get it out of his parent's garage, so he was highly motivated. No, what killed the deal was the price of gas, it had a 426 and I figured it wouldn't be able to afford to run it. It's still debatable if college turned out to be a better investment
