Watercolours and pen.This is inspired by the narcissi in my yard and the way they always optimistically send up their first few shoots in the autumn, as if there wasn't a long winter ahead. Also deer. I wanted to paint deer! This one turned out to be a weird leafy deer.
Not sure how I feel about the outcome. It could probably do with being a little less busy.

Oh wow, this is a beautiful piece. I can't believe how subtle and nice that texture in the background is. Did you use salt on the paper to get it? I also love the color scheme and the compositional elements. There is implied perspective, but like in Japanese prints, no actual atmospheric depth. It's a challenge to get it to look as good as you did. I think the color scheme is also beautiful and perfect for the season. Wonderful job!

Yes, I did use salt to get the texture in the background, but then I felt that the effect was too strong and lightly painted over it to make it more subtle.
