Description
A journey to RiversideAfter passing the fence, we reached a street with a sign. "Riverside. Hey, almost done" said Louis. A Boomer appeared behind a school bus and exploded because of Francis. Unfortunately, I was closer to the explosion then I expected and got soaked with bile. "Shit, I don't see anymore." I didn't need to because what I heard was bad enough: A giant Horde, bigger then a Horde a Boomer usually calls. I put my back at the bus and removed some bile from my eyes. When I was able to see again, the Horde was just in sight and didn't came further because Bill and Louis killed them nearly without any problem. But there was no reason to be happy, we could hear a Smoker in the woods next to us. "Crap, another Smoker!" yelled Zoey and tried to find it. But the Smoker found her first and dragged her into the woods. I began to shoot into the direction, the smoker should be, Francis too and killed it. Nearly at the same time, the Horde was gone we continued to move. In a small building we found two molotovs and many pills. Francis swallowed some, possibly because he was still hurt from that Hunter.
A bit later, we found a cabin for hunters. "Great, a cabin in the middle of the nowhere. I know how this move ends" moaned Zoey. Inside of the cabin it was really nice and there was just a single zombie around that was beaten to death by Francis. Bath and bedroom were empty, but the living room had ammo and in the kitchen we found two gas cans. I took both – I knew what will happen.
Outside we could see the church, what looked really impressive but at the same time, my blood freed when I looked at it. The small tower was completely dark, the whole church seemed to be build out of the night itself. But the lights made it less scary. "We're almost safe, there's still light in the church" said Bill. Louis went to the hovel at the begin of the graveyard. A Witch sat next to it but she didn't saw us.
"Better safe than sorry. Bit me. Not again, no matter how human they look." The Churchguy could be heard. "There's someone alive" said Louis. We put five gas cans in the church – two where in front of it – and I placed on at the front. Francis knocked at the door. "Who's there?" "I'm Francis, that's grandpa Bill and there are zombies around us. SO OPEN THE FREAKIN' DOOR!" "No, no one gets in here until I know you're immune." Before he could ring the bell, I tried to start a dialogue. Perhaps we could get in WITHOUT he rings the bell. "Listen, mister. We're tired as shit and need a break. I promise you, we are immune." I knocked against the small plate on the upper area of the door. "At least open that look-out, will you?" "Nonononono. I already trusted you once and then I got bitten for it." Louis tried to help. "Are you hurt? We got some first-aid here and could help you." "No, no pain. I want to get sure, you are immune. Here's the test. Ding dong! Dinner's served, come and get it!"A ringing, loud and clear, could be heard. "I GONNA SHOVE THAT BELL UP YOUR ASS!" shouted Francis. "What a dick" whispered Zoey and ignited the first gas can. Bill climbed up the clavier and took care of the left window, Francis covered the right one. I set next to Louis with a hunting rifle what was in a small room nearby and we watched through the big hole in front of us while Zoey threw one gas can after the other into the fire.
"Must be immune... urgh... one hour... arrr... Better safe then..." we could hear from behind, the the Churchguy unlocked the door. When we opened the door, there was a Boomer. Because of that shock I shot it and we got vomit all over again. I slowly got used to it. Because we didn't want to fight when it's not needed, we went inside and closed the door.
After we got rid of the bile – Bill was the only one not hit – we climbed up the ladder. Zoey looked out of the door. "Riverside is overrun, too. We should go to the river and take a boat." Francis liked the idea. "Sounds better then my plan." "What was it?" "Didn't have one."
Bill opened the door and we stepped outside on a small roof. Thanks to our hunting rifles we found in the upper room of the church, we could clear the street in front of us easily. Then we swiched back to our normal load out and went to the supermarket on the other side of the street. But other survivors already cleaned it. "Damn, I hoped to find something to eat in here" said Francis.
We went out again and climbed over some sandbags and followed the street, then we could hear the growling of a Tank. That's what we just needed.
Luckily, Bill still got a molotov, so he took the point while I followed him and the other waited outside. We could walk through the whole building until we saw the Tank but it didn't see us. Bill threw the molotov and we ran back. I closed both door to stop the tank at least for a few seconds. After he destroyed the second door, we began to shoot it. Zoey kept the most distance, but easy to understand, if you remember what nearly happened to her.
The Tank was really angry about us and that we ignited him. It began to throw a rock at Francis but he could shoot it down in midair. Then the Tank rushed to Louis and punched him what forced the poor guy to fly over the whole parking lot and slide over the ground. But the Tank died even before Louis finished his flight.
I gave him my pills and we kept moving. On the other side was also a parking lot, but nothing else. On the next parking lot on the other hand seemed to be half of the population of this town, so many zombies where there. Zoey threw a pipe-bomb, the zombies turned all into a red mist. But we couldn't move because another Horde was on the way. They came over the wooden fence on the left. And we were really luck, the Horde was not alone because a Hunter landed on Louis. We couldn't react instantly because we were all surrounded by infected. But still, Francis managed to get free and rescue Louis.
While this, I was busy not to become todays special. But except shoving them all the time and reloading I could do nothing. It didn't help, I got incapacitated. "I'm out!"
With the pistols I tried to keep these bastards away as long as possible. It felt endless until this horde was down. Zoey came to me. "Come up and move on, honey." THAT confused me. Zoey called me "honey". Was that a joke or something? If it was, I didn't think it was funny.
After they helped me up, Bill gave me some pills I swallowed all at once. Stupid idea, I just got headache from it.
"Here we can come further" said Francis and climbed on a van. "We're coming." After passing the office, we saw a Boomer falling from a roof. But he missed his target by several hundred meters. Through the window we were able to see a street with a cinema and some empty shops. "I've been here before. I always liked this main street" said Zoey. Down on the street we found a barricade. "We have to get over to the other side. Perhaps with this forklift over there?" "I dunno, Bill. I've got a bad feeling about that" mend Louis skeptically. "Don't be a pussy, Louis. Get ready, ladies, I lower the roof!" With these words Francis pressed down a lever. The forklift made a few noises and put the roof on a sign. It broke and some pieces of it flew against a car – with enough power in the battery to call an alarm.
"Quick over the barricade!" I shouted and ran ahead. On the other hand of the roof came a Horde over the fence. "Screw you" I threw a pipe-bomb over the fence and jumped down from the roof. The other followed me and we rushed around a bus into an alley. Behind us we could hear another Horde. "Watch out, grenade!" Francis yelled and threw his pipe-bomb to the bus. At the end of the alley was a fence and behind that the saferoom. Zoey ran up the stairs on the left. "We need to get up again." After going through a window, a self-made bridge and two other windows, we jumped down on the other side of the fence. In the corner of my eyes I could see the Horde about to visit us again and ran as fast as possible to the saferoom. Bill was already inside and Louis just reached it when a Hunter pounced Zoey. Luckily, Francis could help her immediately and shoved the Hunter away but didn't kill it - there was no time for it. I closed the door because I was the last one and sighted once.
Before we left the saferoom again, I checked the graffiti on the walls. If you see them in real, they are really scary. I shuddered.
We left the safe room and were in a garage. "I hate vans" moaned Francis and opened the door on the other side. On the street was an armored hummer of the army with a pipe-bomb on it. "How useful, let's clean up that mess here." I took it and threw the pipe-bomb to the next house. The infected were all good boys and girls and ran to the pipe-bomb and exploded. Then we stepped in that house. Bill found some pills and another first-aid-kit in the bathroom but because we already had five kits, we just placed it near the ammo – if other survivors need it, they don't need to search it. Then we left the house through the back in the garden and passed the fence. "Careful, this is an open area" warned Louis.
We didn't even pass the whole area, we could hear a Witch sobbing. "Lights off, now" ordered Francis. The Witch was nowhere to see but behind a small house laid a gas can I grabbed. The crying of the Witch became louder with every meter we came closer to the river. And then we saw her: She was sitting next to a burning oil-barrel. That was a bit strange, normally a Witch AVOIDED the light. But that was no problem, unlike the fact she was in the middle of our path and we nearly need to touch her to pass her. But we tried it. First Louis sneaked pass her and the Witch didn't react at all. Next one was Francis. "Careful... really careful" I whispered. The Witch saw Francis and hissed at him, but didn't move. Same thing happened by Zoey. I tried my best and also passed her with just get hissed.
Then it was Bill's turn and suddenly a Hunter pounced him next to the Witch. She reacted directly on the noise of the Hunter and attacked Bill. We began to shoot the Witch – the Hunter got slaughtered by her already. "Gah... HELP!" That was Francis. A Smoker got him. But still we kept firing at the Witch, Francis had to wait. The Witch died, now it was time to act. I turned around to find Francis or the Smoker – and spotted both not far away from us. I shot at the Smoker and Francis was free.
"Are you okay?" I could hear behind me, Louis and Zoey helped Bill. "Who... are you?" "Hey, it's me. Zoey!" "Dear god, Bill. You don't look that good. That should help you." I went to Francis. "Still in one piece?" Francis nodded and pointed at a cabin on the left. "We should check it out. We might find something." "I guess, that's good. You go there with Louis and turn this cabin up-side-down, Zoey, Daniel and me gonna check that fireplace over there." The other three already came to us, then we did what Bill told us to.
On the right we could hear a Boomer but it was far away. "You two are a nice pair" said Bill what makes me feel ashame and Zoey too. I wanted to change the topic. "Ahem. Where... where we shall go when we were gone?"
Just before Bill could answer, we heard the radio. "This is John and Amanda Slater. We are a small fishing vessel anchored off Riverside." "There is your answer."
We ran to the two-staged house, from the left, Francis and Louis came to regroup with us. They found in the cabin a medkit and a gas can. Zoey used the radio. "Hello." "Hello? Hello? We're heading to the military outpost upriver. We can come get you in ten minutes. Arm yourselves for the trip and tell me when to head out."
We checked the house and could find two bottles of Ibuprofen, a massive amount of pipe-bombs and molotovs and a third gas can. "We should place the cans at the dock so we can lock out the infected when the boat arrives. If we don't hold out there, anyway" was my suggestion. "I dunno. On the dock over there? There these vampires..." "ZOMBIES, Francis" we said in a choir. "... they probably can climb up at the sides, too" said Francis and rubbed his chin.
"The other option would be to defend us here." "On the balcony is a minigun. I want to shoot with that thing again, anyway." "Okay, man that thing, Louis. Daniel gonna watch your back. Me and Francis hold out the upper floor." "What about me?" asked Zoey. "You place yourself in the window and support Daniel. Would you also be so kind and tell mister Slater, we're ready?" After we stored the cans on the dock we went in position. Zoey stood in front of the radio and called the rescue. "Understood. Safe the area, I don't want our first act of kindness to be our last." "All right, they are coming!"
Just seconds after Zoey placed herself in the window the infected came to us. Most of them ran into Louis line of fire and everything from behind got killed by me. "You really like Zoey, don't you?" suddenly asked Louis. "I think, this is NOT the right moment to talk about that, Louis!" what made him laugh. "You're clearly fallen in love with her, my friend." "What? No! I... okay, it's true, I love her. But can we talk about that later? Like when we don't need to fight for our lives." Why everyone needs to talk about that?
The flood of infected stopped and everyone knew what that mend. I jumped from the balcony on the ground, switched my M16 for the autoshotgun. I already took a molotov from upstairs and waited with the very same molotov in my hand downside in the door. The Tank was able to be heard but still hidden behind some trees. "Do you see it?" I asked Zoey. "Nope. But... WATCH OUT!" A rock from the Tank nearly hit me. Lucky me, because now I also knew where this bastard was hiding: At the fireplace. My molotov flew through the air and hit around one meters in front of the fireplace the ground, the Tank just ran into the flames. Louis fired at the Tank with the minigun, Zoey helped him with her M16. For me on the other hand existed no chance to shoot because this bastard followed me. I ran back into the house and climbed through the window on the right, hoping, the Tank will try to climb through it, too.
And he did. He was too big for the window, couldn't move anymore. Instead of speed up what it couldn't prevent anyway, I grabbed my M16 again, ran up the stairs, passed Bill and Francis and placed myself again next to Louis.
He was about to continue our dialog when a Hunter pounced him. The M16 hit it at his chin, flew back – and made a roll. "Oh crap!" I was about to shoot, there the Hunter just pounced me. But Louis was back again and kicked the Hunter in the hips. It screamed, left me and destroyed next to us. Through the new hole in the wall I could see Bill and Francis who aren't really shocked about what happened and got the Hunter before it could pin one more.
"It slimed me!" A Boomer hit Zoey from below. Because there came nearly no zombies from the front, Louis left the minigun and turned around to watch the balcony behind us while I watched the border of the roof below Zoey so no zombie could attack her – at least I wanted to, the second Tank already appeared somewhere in the woods. I took the second molotov in the upper floor and jumped down. This time, the Tank came from the dock. I threw the molotov... and nearly hit the gas can there. The Tank was perfectly hit and – like the one before – in a rage against me. I couldn't run inside again. The Tank hit me and I flew up to the cabin, where Francis and Louis just came from a few minutes ago. I felt massive pain, that was a goddamn good hit. I swallowed some pills and ran back. The Tank was hunting someone else but was stuck in the window in the upper floor. Our luck. I regrouped with the others. In a far distance I could spot a small object on the water: The Slaters arrived!
"The boat's here, move!" I shouted, rushed through the house to the back, grabbed a pipe-bomb and made my way to the dock. We reached it without any problem, even the infected didn't try to kill us. But then... John Slater used the foghorn. "Is this guy insane? That's gonna call every single infected within two miles!" yelled Louis. "For that situation, we got the gas cans, Louis" said Zoey and shot them.
We stepped on the boat without interference and cast off. Zoey took care of my wounds from the Tank. Mrs. Slater came through a door with three blankets in her arms. She gave them to us, Francis didn't want one and I shared mine with Zoey. "Can I bring you something?" Mrs Slater asked. "Something warm to drink, if that's possible" I said. "Same for me, please" asked Zoey. "A beer, if you got one." Louis and Bill didn't want anything. Short time later, Mrs Slater came with two hot chocolate drinks and a beer for Francis back to us.
The tour wasn't that long, around forty minutes, then we could already see the camp. Something seemed wrong but I couldn't point my finger at it.
When we docked, I knew, what was wrong: The camp was empty. No one made a step in here for at least three days – except perhaps a few zombies but even they were gone.
"I've got a real bad feeling about that" said Francis. But we left the boat without weapons anyway. The Slaters bound it, we went deeper in the camp.
The scream of a Tank just freed me. First because we had absolutely no weapons, then it was just behind one tent, less then ten meters ahead. "Run!" shouted Bill and the Tank appeared. He grabbed a rock from the ground and threw it over our heads - at the boat. It got a giant hole and went down really fast.
"LOOK!" said Zoey and pointed at a small motorboat with enough room for all of us. "Hurry!" We ran and jumped in the boat. Louis removed the ropes but the Slaters just made half of the way. "Faster!" We couldn't do anything for them. The Tank crushed them both with a truck, they were both dead immediately.
"Cast off, now!" Francis turned on the motor and accelerated. We got rid of the Tank easily and inside of a small box, we found five pistols. "Where we go now?" asked Bill. "There is a city over there, we might find a way to escape there" I suggested. "That's Newburg. I live there. They got an harbor there" said Zoey.
