Description
Yay! Took a while mainly because the possibilities for this is run was insane. I animated him on several different wave length animations and ultimately choose this wave pattern. I'll probably do something a little less silly next. Something more serious and something more jumping towards your face! O.oUsed Toonboom Animate Pro 2, 16 frames of animations, at 12 fps.

really great work, my only criticism would be that it's a little harsh on the eyes? could be down to the animation being too fast or the fact that octokat has eight limbs (!)
i suggest maybe slowing it down or adding more inbetweens?
keep it up c:

LOL Carefully not to stare into it's eyes. It hypnotize you with it's wave like movements.

Nice idea and movement. It's interesting to see how a cat could run with 8 legs. My only critisism would be that I'ts hard to see what happens at the legs when they cross over.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I know what you mean. I had to use some creative thinking for how to go about the cross over. I've uploaded the frame break downs here, [link] , in case anyone wanted to see it in stills.

Usually I wonder why people bother to post run cycles, but this one is really creative! It's not "x character runs like every other human/wolf", it's got a creature that really could run in so man different ways. The animation is very fluid and fun to look at. Good work. c:

Wow, thanks a lot for the compliment! It was actually really difficult deciding on a run cycle. I made about 5 different runs in the preliminary stages but end up using this one with bouncing balls on a wavelength. lol I was trying to make a legitimate realistic run but after fleshing out the character it evolved into a cartoony run. I would love to see other animators approach to an 8 legged run cycle.

The way it moves makes me think of a ferrite. However the legs move too fast for me to tell if they are moving the way they would, and they seem to be a bit close to each other too. I would think that this guy was built for higher gravity with that amount of legs.

Thanks for the constructive criticism. During this planning stage it's a lot easier for me to incorporate some of these suggestions. Thanks

Your welcome ^^
I also can really appreciate the smoothness of your animation. I have tried making a running animation frame by frame as well. Let's say that I made a big fail

Like everything else it takes lots of practice and trail and error. Keep at it and turn that fail into awesome!

I kinda gave up on the project and moved on to other things though. I have books to write, and other arts to make.

really good animation. It looks fluid and natura despite its eight legs. this character is really cool to see moving

Thanks a lot! It was insane the number of different tries and retries I did for this character. Originally I was trying to do a realistic cat run with his 8 legs but it eventually evolved into this more cartoony wacky run. Thanks for faving it!

Oh my, it was insane. Just to organize it I started off with three ball and animated them bouncing up and down on a wave length. After that it was just a matter of keeping track of his legs and making sure they looked natural with his body movement. And then the lolling tongue for extra wackiness
Thanks for faving my work!

I was going to make him all serious and realistic looking, but then Jeramy reminded me that the run is way too silly to make him serious.... Good call. lol Yay, for silly!
