I use borden & riley #234 or Strathmoore 300 series smooth bristol, the borden & riley is better for pure marker works, but strathmoore is better when combined with acrylics and paints.

I learned about copic markers the other day! They are friggin expensive, $5 just for 1 marker.. and a single shade of color at that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ginmaart In reply to silverkappa [2011-09-26 02:14:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes they are and thats at they're cheapest, you can buy copic ciao, which are the same but smaller for around $3 at a few websites though ^^, nice avatar by the way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverkappa In reply to Ginmaart [2011-09-26 02:19:22 +0000 UTC]

smaller? the copics i saw were double sides, pointy side and highlight-like side. and thx. there was a 72 marker set for $200 x_x they seem so easy to steal.. which i didnt of course. there was probably a camera on the copic display...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ginmaart In reply to silverkappa [2011-09-26 02:22:47 +0000 UTC]

theyre are three types of copics the kind you are describing I believe are copic sketch, these are the main ones used by artists. The barrel of copic sketch is like a oval and the barrel of copic ciao are like a circle, They have the same tips tho

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverkappa In reply to Ginmaart [2011-09-26 02:29:45 +0000 UTC]

o_o that.. seems about right. the highlighter side thing is like an angled rectangle. but circle tips seem weird x_x never seen one before unless you count dulled tips of sharpies which gradually worn out.

Lol hi! I'm spying on you
I totally suck at traditional, I have 0 patience haha, but seeing your works makes want to give my markers a second try. I hope I can achieve something remotely decent. Great tutorial . Thanks!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ginmaart In reply to Flipfloppery [2010-09-29 02:50:33 +0000 UTC]

haha hi! I'm the same way with digital XD i'm great with traditional but I can't even draw with a tablet. I can edit fine but coloring my coloring is completely horrible. Thank you so much! it makes me very happy to hear that I think you can do alot better than decent from what I can see

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Flipfloppery In reply to Ginmaart [2010-09-29 02:59:31 +0000 UTC]

hahaha I really have tried but I can't for the life of me mix colors the way you do. Well If I do achieve something I'll be showing it to you xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ginmaart In reply to Flipfloppery [2010-09-29 04:29:28 +0000 UTC]

I use a technique that is mainly only used by a few obscure artists in japan. I learned it by translating some interviews I hold the lighter color upwards on the bottom and turn the darker color upside down then touch the tips together. Then color with the lighter color. The marker wont be damaged but it only works with copic markers though theres something about the ink that maks it work. I cant wait to see what you come up with

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Flipfloppery In reply to Ginmaart [2010-09-29 04:41:02 +0000 UTC]

I won't be able to use your super legendary technique then xD. I don't have copic markers. I don't even know if they sell them in Chile hahah. I think not. Hope my chilean brand markers suffice xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ginmaart In reply to Flipfloppery [2010-09-29 04:48:23 +0000 UTC]

it might hurt the tip but you can still do it i think

Lovely tutorial. Very informative and well made.

I have a question, I noticed you are from Pheonix. Are there any stores there that sell Copic Markers? I'm from Albuquerque, New Mexico.. see... and I have yet to find any stores that sell them I'm wondering because we're kind of neighbors lol if there are any good stores to check out.

Because so far I've gotten all of mine online

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ginmaart In reply to art-by-Shiela [2010-07-26 16:17:30 +0000 UTC]

There are stores but they sell only about 12 colors and at full price of $7. SO I buy all of mine online at [link] for only $4 Its cool that you live there Do you ever come to any of the arizona cons?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

art-by-Shiela In reply to Ginmaart [2010-07-26 20:36:35 +0000 UTC]

oh I see They are very rare to find in stores lol Thanks for the link

lol no I don't go to Cons... are they fun? I'm just not into Anime anymore, I only draw it because I've drawn it for like 8 years lol I kind of grew out of it

bebeach [2010-07-20 20:01:07 +0000 UTC]

thanks so much, the skin tutorial really helped, but I was just wondering what kind of paper you did this on? That is, if you remember. I noticed that the marker colors changes pretty drastically (especially for the skin) depending on the paper. So I was wondering what paper you used to get those results with the colors listed above. thanks!

this is a really helpful tutorial! LD I'm going to buy copic markers soon...but they are really expensive here in my country...:/ just one costs almost 10 euros

Ginmaart In reply to GrotesqueRomance [2010-05-26 04:49:22 +0000 UTC]

www.carbonmadestore.com sells for cheap and there are a number that sell cheaper I dont know if it ships to your country but I hope it helps a bit they are expensive everywhere though because they are professional grade markers
