Indeed, Betta usually says that she's a singer or performer when people asks her what she's doing. One who's still waiting for her big break, she might admit, when she gets follow-up questions. Actually, she works part time as a bartender, and depends on financial support from her parents, and later also Throe's day job, to be able to follow her dreams. Despite his doubts, Throe is willing to help her out, partially because it makes her happy, and partially because it makes him feel "pretty fly" when his girlfriend tried to play the part of a gangsta bitch at the local clubs.
