Description Pandora.
First woman, created by Zeus (her name means "all the gifts") to punish Prometheus and men for stealing fire. Zeus gave her a vase (or box) ordering her not to open it. After much hesitation she opened the vase and all evils, that man still didn't know, came swirling out of it. This was Zeus's punishment. hen Pandora closed the vase the only thing that was left in it was Hope.

I love the contrast and composition here! I think your inktobers this year are looking real good in general!

You know the part of this story that I always get hung up on? So the idea is that she unleashed all this evil on the world but hope stayed in the box right? Does that mean there is no hope in the world because it’s still stuck in a box somewhere? Maybe the idea is that hope is the one thing we hold on to and all the evils of the world are external but I KNOW that’s not true.

Also, I feel dumb, but for some reason I never saw the parallels between this and the story of Eve until I read your description. First woman, does a thing that a God told her not to do, and just as Eve got booted from paradise for eating the fruit of smarts, the box was a punishment for humans learning about fire.... Gods sure don’t like people knowing stuff. Evidence of religion being a tool of the ruling class to maintain control? “Knowledge bad! Trust in those more powerful than you.” I can kind of see that though, kids are way more of a pain in the ass when they start thinking they know stuff.

....aaaaaanywho sorry for ranting and amazing work as always!

I kept thinking about it and I had another idea that you would probably rather I kept to myself soooo... here it is! If Pandora is the first woman, making her the metaphorical mother of all humanity, maybe the idea that all evil practices of people came forth from her “box” is meant to be taken a little bit more literally? I mean Greek myths seem to like spending a lot of time talking about how e’rybody always be fuckin. So the idea that hope stays in the “box” is like a mother’s hope that her children won’t grow up to do awful things with the ill begotten knowledge they’ve acquired.

.....sorry to have ranted at you even further, especially about things that may or may not be appropriate.

"A box and or vase containing all the evils in existence? Guess I'd better open it just to be on the safe side"

-Pandora 'presumably at some point in time'

I can't help but love the "Oh Sweet crispy Greek Goddesses what have I done" look on her face once she opened the vase. Let alone the twisted beauty that comes with the dark horrors and punishments meant for Prometheus for giving fire to the human species unleashed upon the world. Reminds me of a KoRn album cover in some respects. But on the whole its a damn good reflection of Pandora's Box (Err Vase) when somebody ends up indulging in something they shouldn't be sticking their nose into.
