Description Note: This is not one of my satire tutorials; this is an actual tutorial.

Llama badges are still fairly new and a lot of people don't know much about them. So hopefully this tutorial will explain what they are and how to get them.

If you already know what they are, you still might find something useful in this tutorial.

Llama badge groups on DA:

<--- More llama-ness than just llama badges
<--- Not devoted only to llama badges

Also, claims to be the king of llama badges. With over 18,000 llama badges, he just might have the most on DA!

I've been trying to build up my llama herd (26 so far) by giving llamas for favorites and for dA birthday notices that pop up in my watchlist. Let's see if it works...

it means that you cant set up your computer to automatically keep buying points for you. some people's computers have programs that automatically do things (like spam)

I liked very much your tutorial, but I have a question. When you press give a llama badge without making a trade, is it random or you chose the person?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Glittercandy In reply to PsychoJLover [2010-06-29 02:54:09 +0000 UTC]

There's no way to randomly give a llama badge. You can either give one to specific people on the llama trade and get a point, or give a llama badge to people on their pages. So...you basically choose who you give one to.

dA has been getting obnoxious. I hate llama badges... I'd rather open my messages and see comments/favorites/something more interesting instead of seeing these ridiculous llamas. >_< Awell. Good tutorial~

Glittercandy In reply to JavierGrave [2010-06-29 02:56:35 +0000 UTC]

Some people have been posting in the suggestion forum, asking DA to make an option to disable receiving llama badges. If enough people ask for it, maybe they'll add a feature like that.

These things are driving me nuts and not in a good way.

Is there a way to block it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Glittercandy In reply to tar101 [2010-06-27 00:53:55 +0000 UTC]

As far as I know, there's no way to block them right now. People are asking for an option like that in the suggestions forum, though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tar101 In reply to Glittercandy [2010-06-27 00:58:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks and after a bit of Google I can see that.
For now I am just going to block those who give me one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Glittercandy In reply to tar101 [2010-06-27 01:02:36 +0000 UTC]

One thing you could do is take the llama badge itself off your page. It might keep people from thinking about giving you a llama, even though it won't actually block them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tar101 In reply to Glittercandy [2010-06-27 01:07:47 +0000 UTC]

No blocking is a better idea.

Is there any way to completley stop people from giving me llama badges, and remove the ones I have been given? Or must I suffer the stupidity of llama badges?

What the hell is so appealing about llamas anyway? >:/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Glittercandy In reply to vanillajester [2010-06-25 16:51:35 +0000 UTC]

As far as I know, there's no way to stop people from giving you llama badges.

Llama badges are just something fun and different to do. Usually people give them to someone they like or to someone that did something awesome or just because they could. I know some people would use the random deviant link to find new people to give a llama to, and would then find new people to watch or fav art from. They pretty much promote community interaction and give you a new way to find some awesome people.

vanillajester In reply to Glittercandy [2010-06-25 17:50:30 +0000 UTC]

Bleh, oh well. I'll just have to put up with it then. >.>

Forgive me, but I don't think "Hur hur, it's raaandum. Loooool" is a good enough reason for *anything*, and I don't need this rather fatuous method of initiating social contact to make me talk to people or go looking for new, interesting art and people.

Out of all the people who've given me llama badges, only two have decent galleries, and only one of those two I am actually now talking to because she's pretty nice. One of the other people who gave me one has the name "easydisplayname" (makes me want to facepalm), and another had a *completely empty gallery*.

So given that less than 10% if the people who have so far given me one have been interesting enough to warrent my continued correspondance, I can safely say I'd happily be able to live without it.

Lastly I'd like to appologise for being an asshole about this, but I just really freaking hate the juvenile "because it's silly" excuse, and I hate it everywhere it's used, and any behaviour it's used for.

/End rant.

Glittercandy In reply to vanillajester [2010-06-25 18:06:25 +0000 UTC]

It's better when someone has a good reason behind it, rather than just to be random. I know that there are others that want an option to not receive llama badges, and there are some posts in the suggestions forum that discuss it.

I can see how they might be annoying and there are a number of people that hate the badges. I guess the only thing you can do is to add your voice to the others in suggesting a way to block people from giving them to you. I don't know if Deviantart would do it, but it seems like a simple thing that would make a lot of people happy.

Oh, I think some people remove the llama from their page to help show they don't care for them.
