Yay, a special edition of the "Sexy Art God" satire tutorial series!

This tutorial is about tracing, and the awesomeness of tracing.

Who knows, I might do one on paint-overs next!

I pity all poor souls who view this with dialup. Unless they're getting a snack or buying something cool while it loads. Then you get no pity from me, and possibly sentence fragments.

Anyway, enjoy!

Snowglobe boobs sold separately, and no crayons were harmed in the making of this comic-like thing.

I don't feel that just copying poses from other artists, obviously without tracing, can be considered art theft. You must be skilled enough to reproduce it. You must use your own style. You must know sufficient anatomy to make it work. A pose is just the position of the skeleton and of the anatomy. If I don't know how to draw a position because it's the first time I draw it or because it is too difficult, I need to copy a direct reference of it. Or am I getting it wrong?

Yusagi In reply to AntichristofGraphic [2016-02-13 06:52:58 +0000 UTC]

It's not art theft, no. DA just likes to pretend that there's only one way of referencing things that's legit (the way that this mentions with the many references and whatnot) because it makes them feel special for doing it the 'better' way.

Yeah, you just described the whole DA and Tumblr communities in one sentence.

Really?Β  I'm very sorry about that. These tutorials are meant to be satire and a humorous look at copyright infringement.

I'm very sorry your friend was bullied! I hope she's doing okay.

I'm favoriting this to shove into people's faces when they think it is ok to actually profit using tracing or pixel for pixel photo copying. Tell your friend it is ok to learn how to draw or paint any way they see fit.

She's doing fine, but can't post freely as she used to. The bully even threatened to deactivate her, and when I butted in and telling her to stop, she threatened me, too. I know she's just bluffing, but I still don't like people to hate me.

Glittercandy In reply to 0-Breezeleaf-0 [2015-03-15 17:18:51 +0000 UTC]

Did you try blocking the person? There's a block list somewhere in the account settings that lets you keep a user from posting on your page. That might help a little bit.

I'm pretty sure they can't deactivate you or your friend (they'd have to be a site admin or be a part of the copyright & etiquette team as far as I remember/know). If the person gets too harassing and blocking doesn't help, then submit a help desk ticket.

If the bullying is still going on, I mean.

It's sad that someone would stoop so low by bullying, but your friend shouldn't have traced (that is, if she even did in the first place).

0-Breezeleaf-0 In reply to Mofojuju [2015-01-23 21:30:25 +0000 UTC]

She is the kind of person that needs sort of a picture to draw off of. One of her drawings looked, "too much like the original." It looking almost nothing like the original, but we all know the bully was finding some way to push her aroundΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mofojuju In reply to 0-Breezeleaf-0 [2015-01-23 23:20:10 +0000 UTC]

I's nice to reference of something, but she wouldn't get bullied if she were a little more creative. My suggestion is to get a palette, get multiple images of the subject and only use the subject for anatomy and pose study rather than drawing the actual thing.

If it looks too much like the original, she must be really good at drawing then

That happened to me, on Twitter.

I uploaded a fanart of Mighty No.9, then in 9 hours (you heard well), a person uploaded an image with the posture I did, changing the characters. Everyone told her that her work has amazing, and was a copied piece of shit of my picture.

This is not the first time that happens to me: in Deviantart, when I uploaded things to a group, anyone noticed them, but, the next day, I see an amount of really bad art, with my original idea.
Not only that, but a Daily Deviation, saying how original it was, and the picture was even worse than mine.

I remembered when and idiot said he didn't admitted me the image on a group, because it was a copy of an original art: I don't copy. I make my original ideas, and try the fanart looks like equal as the original deal, wich is looks like a thing I do perfect, if some idiots don't know to distinguish.

But all that, with a LOT of hard work! I practiced a character I like this year for two months, just because I like it to be equal as the original, but making an idea and the picture myself, not copying original/official art.
