Here is a work in progress of my hell gate, designed on Autodesk Maya.although its not finished yet, i think it has reached a point where it can be commented on. My inspiration to design this picture is my all time favorite game Doom 3, and an existing hell gate made on 3d studio max.

My suggestion
Make a bridge/walkway and along the sides every few feet have a flaming lamp.
Could put bones and skulls on the bottom of the lamps.
Can also add some torn banners on the side too.
Just some ideas.
