I think there's a tutorial for a much much better way of doing this on Youtube. If I remember it I can note it to you, or hell, if you ever wanna join us when we all do our art shit in a Hangouts I usually link that to interested people.

Nice. It looks like it could be the background for a movie poster.
The largest problem with the design, is that the "C" in "colonists" looks like a "G" with the light line passing through the words.
The star in the "O" is a nice touch. I like the texture work on the planet.

I've still not figured up a name for my own series, however I've gotten a bit bored of knowing how most battles would pan out. So I decided to make risk versions of planetary defenses and or invasions.
