I seem to have misplaced my infrared filter! I'd love to find it again and shoot more like this at some point...

Thanks, I agree I have an old Canon I'd like to convert into a full-time high speed infrared camera, but haven't the time/resources to do that just now.

I've actually seen photos from the Canon with the IR cut filter removed. Without it, the IR light contaminates the scene with a pinkish cast and throws off the light metering. So it makes sense to have an IR cut filter for everyday shooting, but it definately makes it much harder if you're trying to do IR only shots like me.

Did you use a digital rebel for this shot? i read in some other comments that you shot IR using it.
I've read many times that IR shots dont work on most canon models because of the IR blocker, but also have read that they do work but with mostly bad results. How have you found shooting IR using a canon? the quality of this shot isnt too bad, but isnt very sharp, but that may be because of focus. Thanks in advance, and this park looks familiar, where was it shot?

Hi there! I've actually read comments like that too. I find the quality with my unmodified Digital Rebel and an Hoya72 to be very reasonable, as long as you're willing to accept long exposure times. The lack of sharpness in this image is partly because of the focus and partly because it was quite windy that day. The trees are in shallow focus, but because the branches were in constant movement, they appear unsharp. This was taken at the Rochester Commons in Rochester NH. I appreciate the questions!

goldomega In reply to oksigenesis [2006-09-25 11:55:40 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, an infrared pass filter. It blocks visible light from entering the lens, but passes infrared light. For more details check out this article .
