Description The long overdue reference sheet for Altanus is up!

First Page: brandor-cat.deviantart.com/art…

It covers all the required basics, but it still needs added fields for his weapons, powers, personality, and background. For now, I will summarize them below, and add them to the sheet later.

for the amazing fanart!

Weapons and Gear
Altanus wears a utility belt meant to hold tools and temporary items that can supplement his arsenal of spells and skills. This may include firearms, grenades and health potions, and generally anything he can stuff into a pouch.

His main weapon, however, is "Sin Eater", his trusty long-bladed scimitar. The blade has been crafted specifically for him, making it much easier to channel his elemental energies through brutal swings and precise slices. It also features an ID lock and an interlocking hand guard, which mates to the scabbard, and renders thievery or loss virtually impossible.

Skills
Given the specialized nature of Altanus's fighting style, he does away with the concept of a "knight in heavy armor" in favor of mobility and speed. The result is a devastating high-risk/high-reward method of dispatching foes. He can rapidly close distance, dodge attacks and deliver mayhem in close-quarters. The trade-off is that his armor lighter, and protects much less, though it still provides a fair amount resistance. As such, Altanus depends on magic and relentlessly overpowering his enemies to mitigate sustained damage.

Though he specializes in heavy damage from spell and sword combos, Altanus has a comprehensive knowledge of various weapons and tactical maneuvers. He is not above moving quietly and attacking from the rear, and has no compunctions with using any and all available weaponry. He prefers pistols and hand cannons, since anything else is cumbersome, and mana is a precious resource. He always attempts to make use of advantageous terrain.

Spells
The butter to his bread, Altanus employs clever and ruthlessly efficient spells to pester foes at any range, control the battlefield, and protect himself from savvy attackers. There are more, but these are his favorites.

Blade Rush- Charged energy is released into body, instantly propelling Altanus in any direction for a large distance. Usually accompanied by heavy slash from Sin Eater.

Mirror Image- A defensive illusion that creates multiple perfect copies within close proximity of Altanus in order to confuse and disorient his opponents. Hitting a copy dispels only that image.

Channel Energy- Altanus can convert stored mana into various energy types, as the situation warrants. It can be discharged as a bolt, a cone, or through a melee strike.

Vanish- A costly but highly effective spell, this spell allows Altanus to turn invisible for a few seconds, teleport to or behind a target, and deliver a savage blow at a vital area. Sin Eater is magically altered to be EXTREMELY sharp, often overcoming damage resistance. Alternatively, it can be used as an escape from dire situations.

Slayer- This is a sustained mode. Mana is used to temporarily empower Altanus's melee strikes. For each landing blow, he recovers a small amount of health, but his mana will burn at a swift rate so long as it's active.

Finisher: Deadline- May only be used if mana is at 100%. Altanus releases a large burst of Antimagic, which disables and suppresses all powers, magic, and modes caught in the area, including his own. This renders both himself and enemies without access to their powers, and leaving the fight to be settled the old-fashioned way.

Personality
To say that Altanus is complicated is an understatement. While he is sworn to uphold the ideals that serve as the core values of his order, a Paladin in his world is not restricted in their moral outlook. Instead, they focus on measurable and easily defined axioms of their society in accordance with the law. As a result, Altanus is seen as a stoic, no-nonsense and grim soldier in the face of the war for survival against an encroaching horde of spiritual creatures.

As with anyone else, however, he seeks to carve out a life of peace for himself, and eagerly awaits the day he can finally retire, with a clear conscience and a proud history.

Altanus often finds that many don't agree with his line of service, and are at odds with what others see as an extreme. While in private, he agrees that he DOES represent an extreme, it is a necessary one, and has learned early that arguing over semantics, opinions and points of view is better left to politicians and real philosophers. He fights, he kills, and he forges ahead, without any explanation for those who question him. At all times, though, remains aware that diplomacy and reason are far more effective than brute force, and is always willing to speak freely with those who are willing listen.

Whenever Altanus doesn't wear his armor, he releases the visage of a hard and cold adversary, and assumes his naturally warm, patient, and light-hearted demeanor. He does carry physical scars from a dark past, and emotional burdens that weigh on his soul, but being able to smile in spite of it all is, in his eyes, the mark of true strength.

Background
Born into a world of violence and fear, Altanus was thrust into the world an orphan. And as with many orphans, he found that his particular interests lay with escape from the drudgery of a slow and ineffectual system. Sudden death at the jaws of monsters was a constant threat, and the disparate and fractured nature of civilizations across his world meant that only the lucky few were kept safe from the vengeful spirits and the depredations of criminals. And so it was to be that small Altanus grew into a strong, if not particularly bright, young man. At the first opportunity, he joined a mercenary company to seek his fortune. Over the years, he has provided protection to the wealthy, was exposed to the sins of man, and lived a fragile existence of pain and pleasure.

That is, of course, until the day he died. And was born again.

Mercenary companies were rather more like organized gangs, and territorial disputes were common. When one such conflict swept through the streets of a frontier settlement, it roused a previously unknown crypt filled with spirit monsters. The carnage and destruction that followed was total and unrelenting. Altanus had been sleeping when the screams filled the night. And as he ran for his own life, he ran across some innocents. A woman and child, begging for his aid. In a fit of conflicting sensibilities, he agreed to help, and got them as far as 2 miles before they were cornered. The mother was taken first, and the child next. And as he was powerless to defend himself, the monster was slain. The Paladins had arrived. And so began Altanus's path towards redemption, ever haunted and fueled by the horrors of war and regrets of a life ill-spent.

Very awesome design, and I'm really liking the depth of his character. I also like that his world uses a combination of technology AND magic! I can't wait to see all those things kickin' in the audition!
