(I have a mile-wide soft spot for Cassie, so I couldn't not make her part of this YJ ink-and-watercolor series
Young Justice and its characters belongs to DC, Brandon Vietti, and Greg Weisman, but the fanart belongs to :devossamerwing:

1987man [2019-02-08 05:53:47 +0000 UTC]
Well, it's been quite a while since I last commented here............. and in that time, Young Justice has been given life once again. It's back for a third season, and with that, it could be a chance for Weisman to make amends for the shit he spewed all over the YJ fandom; it could be a chance to undo a lot of the damage that was done.
(One viewing of the first half of Young Justice Outsiders later)
............... OH SWEET MERCIFUL MOTHERFUCKING CHRIST WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST WITNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So.................... Young Justice Outsiders............ what can be said............ You know, I always thought that Greg had already sunk YJ to the lowest level it could get to; what with the horrible way the female characters were treated, and how the audience was blatantly emotionally abused with how Wally's character was treated....................... but no!....... I was wrong. Greg has sunk this shit show to the legitimately lowest level it could be sunk to. How was this perpetrated? Well,............. I have to start somewhere,........ so...
Now that the show is online, instead of on the networks, horrible things have been shoehorned into the show.
1. Blatant racism:
Now, a lot of people will throw a big fit whenever writers take an established character, and racebend them (change the characters ethnicity). I however, am not always against it. After all, comic characters are fictional, and as long as the story takes place in an alternate continuity, then racebending could be ok. If done right, it could actually be presented as a positive thing. An example of this done right, is Miles Morales/Spiderman from Marvel. Miles is the Spiderman of the Ultimates universe, instead of the traditional 616 universe, and his character is a good example of excellent representation.
Young Justice on the other hand completely fucks this up. In the new season, Greg added the DC character Halo en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_(co… . In the comics, this character is caucasian, but in YJ her race is changed to Islamic Middle Eastern (there's a pic of her YJ depiction here teaspoonies.tumblr.com/post/18… ) Now, in all honesty, I first though that this could have been a good thing; it could have been a great depiction of an Islamic woman portrayed in a non-stereotyped manor. The problem lies not in what race she is, but in who she is. What do I mean by that........... well, to put it in the actual terms of the show itself............... The Islamic woman, Gabrielle Dao.......... is dead....... and her corps is being puppeted around by the "soul" of a New God Mother Box............. You just read that correctly..... The Islamic woman was killed....... so a sentient alien computer can pilot the body. If you want a full description of this bullshit, you can read a full analogy of it here teaspoonies.tumblr.com/post/18…
2. Sexism out the wazuh:
So if what was done to Halo's character wasn't bad enough, it only gets worse. You see, since she's a Mother Box inhabiting a body, she has healing powers; she can recover from practically any type of lethal injury. It's clear that her character was given this power simply so the character could be subjected to constant brutality. During the first half of Outsiders, Halo gets killed multiple times. These deaths include being buried alive; neck broken; impaled. All of her death scenes are shown in FULL to the audience, and certain scenes are purposely stretched out. In one scene, Lobo is attacking, and he uses his chain flail to stab her through the chest. The stabbing is fully shown; she cries out in guttural pain; Lobo yanks her lifeless corps to the ground, and drags it across the ground. There's an analysis here kidquantums.tumblr.com/post/18… that perfectly states that what's being done to her character, is Gore Porn. In other words, brutality committed upon women is being glamorized.
3. Dear God, Greg Weisman's a pervert:
So after seeing the horrid depiction of Halo, I though things wouldn't get any worse.......... why did I ever keep assuming that. I firmly know now that Greg Weisman is perverted, and I truly believe this because of what was done to the YJ version of the DC character Livewire. Just for the record....... Livewire's YJ version is a 16 year old girl; she underaged and a minor........................ this is the outfit Greg had the animators give to her character annotated-dc.tumblr.com/post/1… So........ Greg had the animators put an underaged girl......... in an outfit that's purposely designed to reveal her cleavage............ but it doesn't stop there. Yeah, you're probably wondering how in the hell this could get even worse........... well.......... in every scene that she's in in that episode, there are constant sexual metaphor jokes being said. In one scene, the character Shade uses his shadow powers to steal something, and he complains that it's too big, and Livewire jokes "I thought size doesn't matter". In the very next scene, Shade is exhausted from the strain of his powers, collapses and Livewire leans over in a way that's meant to expose her chest. while she does this, Shade says "that's a lot to swallow" and Livewire says "you gotta stop handing me these straight lines" Here's the scene noodlegirl5.tumblr.com/post/18… (as a side note, I can't stand the way the person who posted those pictures is reacting to them, but that's the only link I found to those pics). Unfortunately, this isn't the only sexualization Livewire goes through in the episode, because what happened later was something so dumbfounding, that I literally didn't believe it the first time I watched it. In a later scene, Nightwing is leading his squad against Livewire and other villains. The character Black Lightning (who joined Nightwing after resigning from the Justice League) pins Livewire in what is clearly a sexually themed pose. She says the line "absorbing lightnings totally my thing" and he responds with the line "You've never had Black Lighting before", then proceeds to shock her (the scene is here knightnite19.tumblr.com/post/1… . The joke is clearly meant to be sexual, and it's also Black stereotype coded as well. Just a reminder, Livewire's character.............. is a 16 year old at the time.
You know, before..... all my accusations of Greg could be written off as hearsay; it was based loosely on my encounters with him, and reading between the lines of events depicted in the first two seasons........... but now...... it's over. The facade is gone; the truth is exposed. Greg Weisman is a racist; Greg Weisman is a sexist; Greg Weisman is a pervert. The evidence speaks for itself. What more can be said........ what more is there to say. Young Justice is immoral; Young Justice is degenerate; Young Justice is wrong.......... because that's the way Weisman made it.
P.S. If you never want to see Outsiders after this I understand. However, if you truly wish to see all...... this... for yourself, you can watch the first half of it here www.thewatchcartoononline.tv/a…

1987man [2014-08-27 03:44:33 +0000 UTC]
Well............ I just took a look at Wiesman's AskGreg website, and............. I'm actually dumbfounded. Greg answered a question, and the answer is supposedly an April Fools Day joke. You know, I think Wiesman has finally reached the summit of the SHIT MOUND, all the while believing he's the king.
The question that was asked, was asked back in December 2013, and went "Would Wally have returned if YJ got a third season?"
Wiesman purposely waited until April 1, 2014 to answer, and he said "No, he wouldn't have returned in the third, fourth, fifth, or sixteenth seasons. He's dead, remember."
You know, I really don't care if I get flak for saying this, but....... with the way Wiesman treats the characters in the show, as replaceable, worthless tools, and the way he treats the fans, especially on AskGreg, I honestly believe that Greg Wiesman........... might actually have an undocumented mental illness. Think about it. When fans express opinions about the show that differ from Wiesman's own opinions, he belittles and insults them. For instance, a fan once said on AskGreg, "I really don't see the chemistry between Robin and Zatanna in the first season." Instead of respecting that fans opinion, Greg answered, "Well, you're not looking hard enough." He was rubbing his opinion in their face, which is also called Brown Nosing. You know, if a third grader in elementary school does that, I don't mind, because at their age, they don't know any better. Greg Wiesman is, as of 2014, 50 YEARS OLD........
I ask this question....... If a 50 year old acts with the behavior of an elementary school student, what does that say about their character, not just as a director/writer/producer, but as a person.
I'll ask another question......... If Wiesman truly cared about anything in YJ, as some fans say, then explain why he disenfranchised female characters(mainly Tula) in order to give the male characters in the show angst and manpain. Explain why, even after the show its self died, does he still refuse to answer peoples questions about the show, even when those questions are about as trivial as a question can get(he won't even tell us how tall the characters are). Explain why he smiled and giggled when he said, before the show even aired, "Not everyone's gonna survive this."(true story. He laughed when he talked about killing characters.), and above all, explain why he made an APRIL FOOLS DAY joke about killing a character.
If people like this show, that ok. There's nothing wrong with liking it, at all, but it can't be denied that the show its self, is a pretty bad cartoon. The characters are just walking, talking tropes. The writing is the worst in the history of DC animation. The story is all over the place and inconsistent, and there's really no main plot(though there are tones of subplots that never get resolved). All in all, just mediocre. Again, I'm not criticize anyone for liking the show, I'm just calling out Wiesman for the bullshit he's been giving us since day one. (Sorry if the rant came out of nowhere.)

(Ah! It's so good to hear from you!)
WOW. He really said that? Jeez. How unprofessional, childish, and (quite honestly) mean-spirited! I must admit, his refusal to answer even trivial questions (or post information regarding those FAQ somewhere) with an air of "Ooh, I'm not telling~~" has annoyed me for quite some time, but now he really seems to have taken it to a whole new level
No need to apologize! That rant is totally legit

To answer your question..... yes, he really said that.
Now when you said, "he really seems to have taken it to a whole new level." I have to say, that he might have just taken it far beyond that. You see, I was looking around on Tumblr, and I found something. Something that has left me in shock. Something that........ offended me. Apparently, at a Young Justice panel, Weisman made jokes (that he stated were not cannon) about certain character's........... sexuality.
Supposedly, he joked about how Wally could....... (let's just say it as it is) SCREW for hours, and not get tired. Even if he said this as a joke, it's still distasteful, and off-putting. Now that may seem bad, but apparently it got worse. Weisman then made a joke about how Dick Grayson (as Nightwing) both slept with, and (oh God) had sex with every woman on the team. So, right off the bat, Greg was, in a way, implying that Dick was not only sleeping, but having sex with women who were already in relationships with other men. To add to this, by implying that Grayson screwed every woman on the team, one can only conclude that Dick was sleeping, and screwing............ 14 YEAR OLD CASSIE.
Now I know this sounds horrible, but........... wait, there's more.
The last joke, was about Artemis. Apparently, (according to Greg) Artemis Crock became sexually active at a young age........ around age....12. But it's ok, she used protection. I'm not even going to talk about that one.
There's no video of this, but I've seen a couple different people on Tumblr and Twitter saying that Weisman said these things at the panel. If it's true,................ then I don't know what to say. I'm kinda at a loss for words right now, because........... what can you really say about that. Part of me wants this to only be a rumor,............ yet another part of me wants this to be true, simply because that part of me wants to see Greg Weisman destroy his own career. It would prove that Weisman is out of control, and has no moral fiber whatsoever.
P.S. I actually met Weisman once, and had a full conversation with him, and I have to say, I've never met anyone (in person that is) who was as arrogant, self centered, simple minded, and narcissistic as Greg. In truth, the failure of Young Justice never really surprised me. It got double screwed by both Cartoon Network, and it's own director, and in the end, it was the fans who paid the price.

WOW. Wowowowow. I am BEYOND disgusted to hear that. How sickening!
I'm not surprised to hear YJ failed now that you say that. I am so sorry you had to come in contact with him! I hope it wasn't too scarring of an experience

Well the meeting with Greg wasn't scarring. It was just frustrating, and aggravating. Strangely, I didn't meet him at any convention. I met him accident when my father and I were visiting my aunt in Burbank. We went out to eat (I think it was at a California Pizza Kitchen, but personally I don't care), and as we sat down, Weisman literally walked straight through the door by himself, so I went over to talk to him (because hey, it's Greg Weisman, and I sure as hell wasn't gonna get another chance to talk to him). Personally, I'm still trying to forget that meeting. Basically, all Weisman did was blow smoke up his ass. He talked about how killing off characters in YJ made it more "mature" and "adult", and how he believed it made the YJ fans love him more. He also seems to still be riding high off of his Gargoyles popularity. He believes that he's the true hero of that show, and that he is the one who made it great (despite the fact that he was NEVER a full producer/director of that show. Paul Dini was the head of that show, and is true hero of Gargoyles.)
If you want to see a visual depiction of the kind of person Weisman is, watch the episode of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (the British version, not the American one) where Gordon goes to the restaurant, The Runaway Girl. Weisman is practically identical to Justin Roundtree, the owner/manager of that restaurant. Seriously, go watch that episode, and see how Justin acts in front of Ramsay, and his own best friend/head chef of the restaurant, Richie Russell. It's both hilarious, and sad.
As for the failure of Young Justice, I can clarify that it WAS NOT cancelled because it attracted more female audience members than male. That was a misconception that sadly got circulated around. YJ was cancelled because it attracted practically no one. The people who watched it and loved it were a niche market that couldn't keep it alive. Furthermore, when it was suggested that a superhero show be made with teenage heroes, literally no one wanted to take on the project. Weisman even admitted, in an interview with Angry Joe, that he and Brandon Viette never wanted to direct the show, and were scared of it (that's right, SCARED of it).
What dissuaded me from this show, was a combination of the GOD AWFUL depictions of female characters (specifically Tula, and how the shows narrative treated her. The fridging of her character is the biggest Fuck You to women in the entire history of DC animation), and the sheer plotlessness of the show as a whole. To get a full description of how female characters were treated in this show, I suggest looking up the blog "Young Justice offers little justice for female characters". It's very intelligent and informative.

You know, getting back to Cassie's character, I do have to say that I love how Mae Whitman voices her. She really brings the same upbeat optimism to Cassie, that she brought to Katara in ATLA.
Despite that, it still can't change the fact that Greg and Brandon pretty much used Cassie's character as nothing more than a tool......... Oh wait,....... they treated every character in season 2 like a tool........ especially Wally........ Hmmmfff..... what a shame.
(P.S.) I should have said this earlier, but I really do enjoy the Young Justice pics you've done. I like how you drew the screenshots, left them as line art, and then added the watercolor-esk backgrounds. It's a really unique method. I also like that for the members of the Team, you titled them with their designation number.

(Oh dear, this reply is beyond late! I'm so sorry)
I completely agree with you here! I really love how Mae Whitman put such heart into her line readings for Cassie, and it's a shame she got such little development. I think one of season 2's problems was that so many new characters were introduced that never got the screentime they really needed and the show got far too cluttered. (Ugh, Wally)
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed my YJ work

And her YJ version is definitely miles better than her New 52 Teen Titans version. In the New 52, she way too moody, annoying, and depressive. All I can say for that version is "Lazy Ass Writing."

Oh, you haven't actually read any of the New 52........ Well that's definitely for the best, because most of the story lines are....... well,....... shit.
If you are gonna read a comic, read the companion comics to YJ. True, the art isn't the best, and they are considered kids comics, but they're much better than any of the crap coming out of the New 52.
(P.S.) The YJ companion comics are what got me to start shipping Cassie, and Jaime together. AKA, the Wonderbeetle ship.

YJ series finally(Spoilers): So........Cassie and Tim Drake are dating.......... despite the fact that we've never seen them interacting together during the ENTIRE season. Every single villain GOT AWAY, we only got to see Virgil Hawkings/Static, but none of the other runaways, Wally West is dead, and the series ended on a cliffhanger with Vandal Savage shaking hands with Darkseid..............
(Sigh)....... Wow......... I mean.... WOW!!!!! You know, I now consider Young Justice to be just as bad as anything from the New 52.
I...... I am never watching this show ever again.

To tell the truth, and I'm sorry if this offends you, but I find Young Justice Invasion to be practically nothing but garbage. If you think about it, YJ Invasion was nothing but a broken down mess.
1. The plot (or what I guess is the plot) is inconsistent, and incoherent.
2. There's little to no character development for anybody.
3. Characters are basically thrown at us without any explanation for why they're there, or what their backstory is.
4. Characters (most of all Tula) are killed off screen with no explanation of how, or why.
5. Wally's death serves only as shock value, and has practically no meaning behind it.
6. The villains are never actually defeated, or for that matter, ever stopped.
7. There's no resolution to the story.
And worst one of all.........
8. Practically all the characters are non-entities. They show up, do something, then disappear. Characters suffering from this trait include, Wally, Artemis, Jade, Paula, Lawrence, Kaldur, Black Manta, Tim, Barbra, Dick, Zatanna, Cassie, Jaime, Conner, M'gann, Raquel, Karen, Mal, Bart, La'gaan, Tula, Garth, Garfield, Clone Roy, Original Roy, Tye Longshadow, Shelly Longshadow, Asami Koizumi, Virgil Hawkins, Eduardo Dorado Jr., Eduardo Dorado Sr., Cissie King-Jones, Stephanie Brown, Adam Strange, Alana, Vandal Savage, Ra's al Ghul, The Brain, Klarion, Queen Bee, Lex Luthor, Mercy Graves, Ocean Master, Black Beetle, Green Beetle, The Scientist, The Ambassador, Deathstroke, Darkseid, and......... THE ENTIRE JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Wow...... What a mess..... What an ungodly mess YJ Invasion turned out to be. Well, I guess the only thing I can do, is quote Jeff Goldblum.
"That is one big pile of shit!"
