Description "It's either France, or the chicken..."

The French Directory was overthrown by Napoleon's coup of 18 Brumaire, Year 8 of the French Republic (9 Nov. 1799), which was replaced by the Consulate, with Bonaparte, Sieyรจs, and Ducos as Co-Consuls. It had been orchestrated to head off a return to Jacobinism and/or an invasion by the Second Coalition. However, Napoleon quickly consolidated his power by making the First Consul - himself - greater than the other two. This was the first stepping stone to the French Empire of 1805.

The Gallic Rooster is an unofficial symbol of France that came about due to a play on words between Gallus (Latin for an inhabitant of Gaul) and gallus (Latin for rooster.) It was revived by the Revolutionaries of 1789 to link the French state to the ancient, pre-Christian Gaul (apocryphal though it may be.)

This may develop into a comic in the future, showing the change from Gallic Rooster to Imperial Eagle as the sigil of France. But for now, enjoy my subtlistic Tricolor! (Also, why did men in the Revolutionary Era insist on having cameltoes? -.-)
