Description
another one of my cuties...i found her frozen to death in winter =ยด (
to keep her warm (and because i didn't think i would manage the tiny paw bones, ahem...), i left her fluffy boots and gloves on...
actually, i wanted her to be able to hold a nut, but that didn't work...

This is so unique! I love it! I'm sorry something ate the fur off of her feet, though. Good thing you've got this photograph.

I like roadkill and making projects out of it, but I've always wondered... How do you put and keep the skeleton together like that? Also, what's a good method for cleaning bones?

I love when people have a good interest in making use of passed animals, its so amazing when you can see the very base of a animals design it puts anatomy into a whole another light.

Wow, you do some really wild work.
How are the bones held together?

for animals that small just superglue
for larger ones i also use epoxy on the main joints and a wire inside the spine

This has got to be the cutest thing I've seen in a long time. I kind of want to hug it. I love the furry little paws!

Very clever of you!
How did you make sure the hands and feet don't deteriorate further or get eaten by insects?

i didn't, i thought that they would be ok when fully dried
but i was wrong, and after a year something got into the feet and ate all the hair, but just the hair, at least the naked skin is still intact
now i know better and inject formaldehyde into all tissues after drying, when preserving non-skeletised parts

ahh... good to know, good thing you took that pic right away, now you have it for posterity... hey, you should take a new one of it, with just the skin on, that would be cool to see as well

Love the pic. Nice work.

Erm, you seem to find some pretty weird stuff. Good decision to leave the fluffy gloves on, makes it look really bizarre. Very professional lighting. Doing anything to do with biology as a job or just playing with bones for fun?

most people wire them, but i prefer to glue them and only use wire on the inside, where it's invisible... in the spine, for example...
i plan to do a tutorial, when i have time...

I think the neatest thing is the lighting in your studio.
it seems to be top notch.

oh fuck, i wish it was...
or that i even had a studio, for that matter...
i use the cheapest spots available... and 500 + 250W is by far not enough...
i just compensate with photoshop, but i wish i wouldn't have to...
i need a proper softboxed flash system, dammit!

the usual: white cardboard bent up, 2 cheap spotlights with cheap reflector umbrellas, and some tweaking in ps...

Let me say this is a very interesting piece, quite eye catching. The skeleton has been nicely cleaned and the fur that remains looks good. Poor creature, but a good fate as art.
