Well this took the better part of my term break! A project for my illustration subject in my design course that I really enjoyed doing, actuallyThe premise behind it was to imagine we've been chosen by an illustraion mag to draw an image for their gallery section. The only restriction - it has to include an animal, we had free reign on everything else (the best and rarest type of brief in the industry apparently).
So this is the newest and improved version of my character Flint and Chinese castles and Fu Lions which I'm into currently.
I'm really quite proud of this pic. Study this year has really opened my eyes to new ways of compostion and especially shading and colour and this is the frist time I've managed to apply it well.

Thanks! That's really what I was going for in this one. I usually focus alot on the indivdual detail and the overall drawing becomes disjointed. Here I focused on the mood, sort od getting it to flow like a story.

and the fu lion(im gonna stop calling them lion dogs now that i know their names
to me, it slooks kinda like flints saying"stay here", but if it was my dog, id be like"stay,,,no, stay! OI STAY!!", and then he still wouldnt listen to me(which is why u dont take a golden retriever to storm a chinese castle
btw, what do the symbols on the coin around the fu lions neck mean?

Well they were supposed to be Chinese characters, but I'm not too good at writing them so small. The top and bottom combine to say Guardian Lion. The one on the right is "heng" or to cross through the path of an attack and the left one is "pao" or to explode out like a volcano while blocking. So they sort of symbolise its role as a guardian summon.

Heh, yeah well in our class theres this guy who always competes with everybody but he didn't turn up on mon. So one of the guys decided to take a photo an message it to him as an incentive to start his drawinf all over again

Very good, I wish i coudl do work like this with pencils xD think the only thing is the brick wall behidn the fu lion, is a bit our of perspective, but its a great piece none-the-less :}
