Connection (WIP)

Definitely still a work in progress considering that one of the monster’s shoulders is SERIOUSLY messed up, and the mirror is unfinished, and Dani’s cane is missing, and I need to actually decide what’s going to go on in the mirror below where the monster comes out of it. Dani’s reflection? The bottom half of the monster? YOU TELL ME, AMERICA, BECAUSE I HAVE NO FREAKING IDEA.

Anyway. I’ve been meaning to draw Dani and her true form for the longest time, and I kind of knew I wanted to incorporate the cliché image of a mirror into the picture somewhere, but I also knew that I wanted Dani and her true form to be interacting somehow, so… I only just figured out what I wanted this to look like. I kinda wanted the monster to be more subtle, but I’m not enough of an artist to figure that one out.

I think I’ve only actually ever described Dani’s true form twice in the entire run of “Future Talk”, and I reread its descriptions (Noh mask features, triple joined legs that bent in the wrong direction, sightless black eyes, lipless mouth that concealed rows of jagged, serrated teeth) before drawing this. This led me to realizing that the only other image of the monster I’ve drawn was actually incorrect, because I gave it hair when I very clearly say that the shapeshifter, during the scene when its body is changed to look like Dani’s, had “brown hair sprouting from its BALD HEAD”.

o, yeah. That’s been fixed. Ish.

For those unfamiliar with this character, yes, Dani’s foot is supposed to be really messed up. Woot.

Will put this in scraps once I streamline it and get a better scan.

Title refers to the connection between Dani and the monster as her body, Dani and the monster which might actually be her MOTHER, and yeah, layers of crap.
