Shading sucks and I can't draw animals; bear with me and the awkwardness.

These are some of the first original characters I ever dreamed up--to my memory, anyway. Mody is the winged-cat thing; Red is the character atop of whom Mody is perched. I don't know why, but recently the pair of them have been parading about in my head-space, distracting me from other projects even though I have neither written nor thought about their story in many years. Weird how characters catch up to you out of the blue.

Anyway, Mody is the winged cat... or sphinx, truth be told, but she's a bit of a weird type of sphinx that doesn't come along all that often (and isn't particularly well-received when it does). She can speak humanoid languages with ease and is incredibly intelligent. Her hobby is making up riddles (of course) and she's very affectionate with those for whom she cares. She's a mothering type. Mody is supposed to be dun-colored, edging into gold in her wings. Her eyes are bright blue.

Red is a human(oid) huntsman/rogue-type with a short temper and a gift for strategy. He cannot abide fools and hates the idea of bowing to authority of any sort. He has a vendetta against a certain person. It's hard to see, but his left eye (the one not glaring at the world) is covered by an eyepatch. What lies under that eyepatch is one of Red's most closely guarded secrets. He is willing to do anything and everything to reach his ultimate goal and has few morals to speak of. He has strange hair the color of hematite and russet eyes.

Red and Mody share a very special bond and are rarely without one another's company. They saved each other's lives and have never parted since. Red is a natural loner, so it's really rare that he lets Mody hang around. Mody doesn't have any home to speak of (returning to her birthplace would likely mean death) so she helps Red achieve his goals in any way she can. She's actually quite the powerful ally to have around despite her small size.

There's a third character to round out this little group, although you wouldn't know that since I didn't draw him. He's disappointingly normal in comparison to these two; here's a description anyway.

A young man named Russian is the third member of this trio. He comes onto the scene long after Mody and Red bond, so he doesn't have as strong of a relationship as the two of them. He blindly follows Mody and Red because he's in way over his head and these two are the only people he trusts. He's athletic but a bit of a coward, although his heart is in the right place. Physically, he's muscular, tall, has short-cropped black hair, and grey eyes.

The trio's story is set partially in our world (AKA, modern day earth) and partially in another world entirely. Mody and Red are from the other world... well, sort of. They live in the other world, but they are from OTHER-other worlds of their own (it's a whole big thing). Russian gets pulled into Red and Mody's world and fights with them to get sent home. Red has his own agenda that Russian eventually learns is not as simple as just getting back to his homeland.

The genre of this little jaunt is, I suppose, high fantasy? There are liberal steampunk elements mixed in, but it's mostly a fantasy story. I don't know if "high fantasy" quite fits, but it's the closest thing I can come up with.

I quite miss these guys, truth be told. Maybe I should reboot them soon. OH GOD PROJECT DELUGE I DON'T EVEN---
