I drew this right before I busted my arm last week—I guess you could say that this is my last drawing of the “Pre-Break Graphospasm” period. ^^ Not to worry, I’ll be back with more eventually.

You guys haven’t met Setsuna yet, but she’s been living inside my head for a while. She’s not alone, of course: The story she appears in actually features four OCs named Akira, Mei, Kaya, and, of course, Setsuna. Their story is mapped out in its entirety and will be titled either “MASK” (with all capital letters) or “Reanimate”.

It’s a very strange sort of Yu Yu Hakusho fanfiction involving superheroes that aren’t quite as ‘super’ as they seem, the revival of an old foe who isn’t as dead as we’d all like to believe, and a strange sci-fi twist inspired by Elder Toguro during the Sensui Arc. Sounds weird, you say? You bet your britches that it is.

Setsuna is probably my favorite of the four OCs “MASK” will contain. She’s a levelheaded young woman who is more comfortable in a supporting role than she is in the spotlight. Kind in an understated sort of way, her friends all look to her for support and comfort and a logical helping hand.

She’s good with computers, cars, and basically anything she can work on with her hands and her brains, but above all she is absolutely enthralled with karate and many other forms of martial arts (hence why her costume is modeled after a karate uniform, complete with the shoes).

Though you can’t really tell by looking at this picture, her outfit it actually a costume—if you will, it’s her version of Batman’s cowl. I don’t want to give much away, but this is what she wears when she goes into superhero mode. On a normal day she dresses very casually in jeans and loose shirts.

Her friends, the ones I mentioned earlier, also have little costumes, though theirs are styled differently (one like a kimono, one like a Chinese fighting uniform, and one that looks like a cross between a robe and a gymnast’s uniform). Each has a distinct color combination unique to them—Kaya is blue and yellow; Akira is purple and black; Mei is green and brown; Setsuna is orange and red—and they wear coordinated masks that designate them as a team-unit-thing, which makes sense considering that the girls call their little group of crime-fighters “MASK.”

The team members also all wear gloves, Setsuna being the only exception. Her power, you see, has to be used bare-handed, making gloves an impossibility for her.

Setsuna’s hair is a coppery orange-red color; her eyes are blue. And yes, she does indeed have a nose piercing. ^^

The name "Osagemusha" means "Braided Warrior," referring to her hairstyle. The name was given to her by the press; all members of the MASK team have press-names, which include "Shin'enmusha," "Fuyoumusha," and "Kinomemusha." The names have little to do with the girls’ abilities and more to do with the colors of the costumes they wear, though Shin'enmusha and Fuyoumusha are coincidentally somewhat reflective of the girls' abilities. Kinomemusha is also a bit ironic considering it contains the same kanji as its owner's true name.
