Description
The trainer's name is Niki Drew. She's the daughter of a pokemon ranger; she lost her leg early in her pokemon journey. Yes, that's a prosthetic. Sorry for the bad scan and weird presentation, but I see the image above as a kind of Polaroid snapshot of Niki and her team.

Niki was ranged in a national park; she has a deep bond with nature and regularly wears shades of brown and green. She wears her hair pulled out of her face and she cares little for style. She's a very serious person who takes pokemon training very seriously. Getting her to smile, as she is in this photo, is tough indeed.

The six Pokémon around Niki are her team, but it should be noted that the Charizard chibi and the Machamp aren’t actually HER Pokémon. They’re her father’s. Events in the story have allowed those two Pokémon to temporarily come into Niki’s care... although Charizard, as implied by the picture, is deceased. More on the Pokémon below!

Arcanine—Male, fiercely protective, and loyal. When Niki was seven he was given to her as a Growlithe to raise since his mother was killed in a flood. Niki’s father found him half-dead on a riverbank. He is effectively Niki’s starter since he was the first Pokémon to come into her possession, although it was technically her father who caught him. Arcanine growls at anyone who comes too close to Niki and he snaps at people who try to touch her; this sometimes makes people think badly of Niki and her team. However, Arcanine is quite sweet to those he trusts to handle Niki properly, and he will protect Niki’s loved ones with his life. He acts as leader and Niki’s best friend.

Oddish—Male, shy, and clingy with Niki. He was the first wild Pokémon Niki caught. He is extremely timid and is rather weak. Oddish hates disappointing Niki, and he will try to take on tasks much too difficult for him in order to please her (though she never asks him to do those things, it should be noted). Niki is allowing him to hold off his evolution because he is scared to change forms. Definitely the baby of the group despite being Niki’s first Pokémon. He is very cute and sweet, often clinging to Niki’s leg with his leaves or hiding behind her.

Haunter—Male, mischievous, and teasingly affectionate with Niki. When Niki and Haunter first met, Haunter was caught at a level too high for Niki to effectively control, and while he never maliciously disobeys her (not even at first, when she was an even weaker trainer than she is now), he does greatly enjoy getting her riled up by constantly flouting her orders. However, he will always come through for her in a pinch. Haunter is the group’s comedic relief and clown. Has a particular fondness for licking people with his paralytic tongue and popping out of shadows to scare Champ, who can’t touch him since she’s a fighting type. Haunter is smaller than average. One of his favorite pastimes is inhaling air and puffing himself up into a sphere, so he can bounce around like a beach ball.

Golduck—Male, very tall, and proudly suave. Caught as Psyduck in a net ball, he is a solemn and intelligent Pokémon who greatly looked up to Charizard’s strength and intellect. He seeks to be a pillar of strength now that Char is gone, often inadvertently usurping Arcanine’s authority in his quest to do what’s best for the team (whereas Arcanine wants to do what best for Niki, often at the team’s expense). Golduck will occasionally ignore Niki’s orders when he thinks he’s in the right, but he loves Niki very much even if he doesn’t show it often. He and Arcanine are constantly at odds, making people questions Niki’s aptitude as a trainer because she can’t completely control her Pokémon companions.

Machamp—Female, huge, and dramatic. Contained in a love ball, most assume the Pokémon coming out of the ball will be cute, but instead they get the intimidating Champ—awkward moments have made Champ very sensitive to her gender, and if someone mistakes her for a boy she will go into a rage. Champ is easily offended and is prone to dramatic weeping, but she is also the group’s mother and loves to baby Niki in particular since she had a major hand in raising the human girl. Very cuddly when happy and very no-nonsense, Champ acts as the group’s peacemaker. She also has the ability to swim very quickly, an odd ability for a Machamp. Previously belonged to Niki’s father.

Charizard—Male, quick-tempered, and driven. I’m not going to tell you much about him because he has a major impact on the plot, but the picture kind of gives away the fact that he’s dead. He used to belong to Niki’s father. His death has caused Niki’s entire team (not to mention Niki herself) to question her worthiness as a trainer, as well as their own strengths.
