Description
So finally, DAZ Studio gets its own physical renderer.People, we don't need anything like LuxRender anymore. Seriously, this took 3 mintues to render and my computer's only using single GTX660 2GB.
If you have better GFX card, you can throw much bigger scene and render it in no time.
Get the beta now. You won't regret it.
EDIT: JUST FOUND OUT. If you are using Generation 2 figures (G2F, V6), there's a separate script that will automatically optimize textures for Iray rendering.
My Tina is V4.2 however - so can't benefit from this optimization. But if you ask me, she still looks damn fine!

It seems the new Iray mainly works for Nvidia cards, so AMD users like myself can't use this new tech at its true potential just yet

Iray's been there for many years, but it's Nvidia's CUDA technology stuff... Too bad there aren't that many alternatives out here.

Great to hear that! Not that I use DAZ, but it'll be a pleasure to see higher quality work :3 And I love Tina so much <3

Yes. With this release, everyone can contribute to higher quality renders.

About time DAZ had it's own physically based light render, good work as usual btw.

As far as free stuff, your only chance is Bigetz-san's gloves.

Cool, i'll get with the dowloading then, better and/or faster rendering is always a good thing

Yeap. It's a bit of learning to do proper physical rendering, but which will pay off no matter what.

It appears that Iray is missing displacement mapping (could be a setting somewhere). I'm 95% of the way through this render and everything is still flat. 3Delight is rendering the displacement mappings though.

I kind of noticed that, too. Seems this is the workaround.
To quote from DAZ3d forum user, 'Kamion99 ' says:
"Displacement through the Iray renderer is mesh based rather than point based as 3delights is; this meand that displacement is tied to the resolution of the mesh as well as the ttexture. If you use the Iray shader you’ll see an option for SubD displacement level in the material settings, which you’ll need to turn up to have the displacement match.
Good news is it doesn’t effect the veiwport, nor render times, at least not to a degree I noticed."
Need to try this though.

Took forever to find the shader, but when I applied it, DAZ is now no longer functional. All the render options are inaccessible and the viewport is completely gone. I've tried restoring defaults but it works for five seconds, then goes screwy again.

I guess that's why it's Beta after all... let's hope they make some revision next time.

Cranked SubD all the way and it had almost no effect. Chalk more crap up to nVidia, truth be told. Most of their products have always been suspect and why I haven't had one of their products since my old TNT2.
If one has to crank the polygon level to such heights, then why even bother with displacement maps then?

Just tried - and displacement for me works. Weird, have you converted your surface to !Iray Uber base or similar?

I know I converted it to an Iray 👍: 0 ⏩: 1
gravureboxing In reply to sedartonfokcaj [2015-03-11 14:08:01 +0000 UTC]
It seems that Iray speaks different language when it comes to the numbers. I also had to crank up the minimum displacement and maximum displacement to get an effect of displacement. But, left the SubD level at 1 and Rendered SubD level at 2 (I believe that's the default?)

Couldn't really tell you. I have no real interest in anything nVidia puts out.
