Description
Species: Proungulis ictaCommon Names: Strikejaws
Size:
Habitat: steppe, rivers, marsh
-Feeding
Strikejaws are a family of lethal omnivores. Evolved to hunt small quarry, they have long necks which they draw back before stabbing their prey. The force is usually enough to kill their prey, which they grab with their thin and serrated jaws. Like all Rostriformes they have a feeding tentacle internalized into their mouth hole, and can be drawn back, somewhat similar to a tongue.
They feed around rivers most commonly, but can be found near lakes and some species are specialized for swamps. While in the water they feel vibrations with the fibers lining their legs. They do have echolocation abilities but their specialized legs are more effective in the water.
The Proungulids (front hoofs) are a family in the Rostriforme order. Characterized for their hoof adaptations on their front legs. Most Trignathans have two digits on their front 2 pairs of legs. It is likely these fused together because of past ancestors who occupied niches similar to modern Neocerids, meaning they required speed to escape predators. It is unknown why these ancestors went extinct.
Proungulids where originally thought to be related to Dolichopods (Family that the Strider is in) because of their somewhat similar appearance. In the past their name was Setistriders.
Btw I restructured the taxonomy of this planet, I have overall orders, but most creatures are a genus in a family.
If anyone has ideas for some creatures id like suggestions
