Very nice, this is one of those you can sit for hours with your scetchbook in hand.
Nice capture.

I draw very slow, or not slow in that sense, but my technique is very time consuming, and this would easily take 100 hours or more, and I have 10 drawings i am working through, so I do not really have the time.

But I would love to be there and scetch this lovely statue, that would be awesome.

Yes, drawing from life is the true way... Your work does look time consuming (lots O' detail). Best Wishes!

This lady is my fav in all of Lakeview. She is truly alive. The enriched emotion was transmuted to stone immaculate. And her eyes do follow where ever you might go O.o. MG:

Somebody told me once this trick with the eyes. Is still used by many sculptors and was very loved in the gold era of the roman empire for about 50-60 years. Just before its end. Only that not all the sculptors really manage to "make the wonder". The trick would be to design the statue looking exactly at the artist. This mean, when the artist is working he has to be face to face with its work, like he would look in the eyes of a real person. The trick is very used also in photography lately. And here is more obvious. The model has to look straight into the camera lens. This way, from any angle you look at the model, you have this feeling that his eyes are on the same line with yours. Like in the illusory games. IΒ΄ve always loved this, only that, I suppose is a harder to achieve it on a statue and especially if the pupils are a little lower than usual or the look is down angled.

She was definitely carved in the old Roman style. The relief is cut very deeply to add to the illusion. She is so realistic in person. A favorite of favs. "The Lady of Lakeview"

IΒ΄ve searched some other photos with her on the internet. Is really amazing. Managed to see her eyes too! I cannot decide if this masterpiece looks better from behind or from the front, as the two outcomes are impressive. I have a thing for statues, especially for statues with souls, like this one. Like I said, sometimes I just cannot believe the amount of feelings can be transmitted through a piece of sculpture. Some hands should never die, some artists too. I wasnΒ΄t able to find the name of the sculptor yet, but I continue my search, as I really love this Aphrodite too! So thank you again, Chris, for sharing. you made my day today.

I'm so glad and happy to oblige! This "moving" statues' soul reaches out to me every time I am near. Drawing me closer until I can't look away. A mutual respect and understanding is apparent as we commune. Gracing spaces of cosmic lore!

Poetic licence, eh? And not any kind, but Alpha! You have no idea what innerspace I was about to open again. But, down there, I like the things kept at their bay, with no rumors and no disturbing odyssey. I used to play in the yard, once. Never truly loved the sound of the sand getting lost in my breath. Had this impression IΒ΄m mesmerizing along with it and I guess I was to pure to afford or to allow this.
