Description This one never even had a title, and even now i fail to come up with one i'd like enough to keep, so it's stuck with the four letters i punched on my keyboard the first time i scanned it and saved it. If anyone has a suggestion i'd be happy to hear it, any takers? It was done using pencils and cigarette ashes.

It looks to me as "Waking Up".

That's actually a really good title for a piece that's lacking in the title department! I might end up using it if that's okay with you

I too use cigarette ashes in the figures. There is in it something from sorcery - to shade fingers.

On preview it seemed to me, that you have drawn trees and roots.
I would name it - a geometrical wood.

Oh, wow!! This is awesome!! I love the surrealism! Cigarette ashes??!! Hmmm...I have to try that!! I would have never thought of it! Do you use them for the softer parts in the art, where one might use the smudge?....or what?

My thought on the title....one that might work..."Evolution" ?

Actually i use the ashes to give texture mostly, once they've been applied they slightly damage the paper so any futher pencilwork looks less flat to me. You've gotta be careful though, cause any unburnt parts in the mix will stain the paper in a nasty way and may cause fungus to grow over time, particularly if you mix them with acrylics or oils. You could also use ashes from many different sources, i like cigarette ashes due to the many smokers i lknow who steadily contribute to my constantly dwindling supply and to the fact that it leaves a nice neutral gray, as opposed to wood ashes which have a soft pinkish hue. Anyway, thanks (to you and to everyone) for the comments and the faves, i really appreciate it

Ahh..I was playing around with ashes last night after reading your description..and I noticed that it is best for adding texture, very useful depending on what you want, ofcourse! Hmmm...I am so grateful for this info..it didn't occur to me about possible stains and fungus!! I did notice the nice neutral gray color you mentioned! I will have to practice with it, and learn how to use it! Between my hubby and myself....we have an endless supply! What an interesting medium.

You are so very welcome, and thank you so much for all the very useful info!!
