it's a closed species. that means you can't make your own individual character of that species, regardless of you giving her credit for the idea. you have to ask her or buy one she designs.

Actually crediting for inspiration DOES make it better. I'm sure they would be able to come up with a fish animal that doesn't look like the ones snuffen has made. I would highly commend crediting inspiration and references as it shows you are not trying to claim other ideas as completely your own.
