When I do lineless pictures (for example - [link] [link] [link] )I draw a sketch first, then use the free selection tool and the paint bucket to fill in all the colours on a seperate layer. It's kind of difficult for me to explain in more depth without a visual, sorry. XD
Maybe Griffsnuff will reply with a better explanation. XD

Hum, I've tried a couple of time and I don't know if it's right but you could do the lineart, put that lineart layer on top and set if to multiply. Then the color layer(s) is below and just color them. This way you can color on top of the lineart and still see it and you won't get out of them.
Guess that's what I did the last time and it kinda worked? Hope it helps...

Just make lineart, color it, shade and highlight it, remove the lines and fix the colors??? I don't know that's what I think. :/
