Gargamel successfully captures Matt Smurf to take him to his castle to be eaten or turned into gold, and it's up to Matt himself to get out of this situation. In one epic fan-fic, Gargamel succeeded in killing all the smurfs, save for a few who were outgathering herbs or shrooms that the Elder needed.
The revenge of this handful was great: they erased all trace of the wrecked village and of the dead bodies,(the last to die lived long enough to disclose what happened.). Then the survivors managed to destroy Gargamel's books, potions, etc., and reduce him to a common schlub. In anger, HIS master wrested him of any power to do magic...
The story then proceeds to chronicle the handful of survivors across the centuries until they found a new home in America...
