Lyra holds the world in her *hands*This was painted from scratch in 8 hours in Corel. It is a copy of MC Escher's
Hand with Reflecting Sphere: [link]
I did not directly trace or Photoshop the original image, but I did use the original image as a very low opacity to get the paper texture and a subtle hand texture.

At first, I was like "This is a purdy good picture, but what's the point of putting it in an orb?", and then I realized that the hand was being reflected, then I realized that the hand was LYRA'S and the orb was reflecting her, and then it became extremely creepy, in an awesome sort of way.

Got the reference right away, but it took me a second to realize it was actually Lyra's hand holding the globe. Creepy finger-Lyra, but quite awesome.

Thank you! I wish I could actually paint the internal sphere better, but I'm weak at realistic trees, skies + landscapes. Someday I hope I can paint it again and really make it the best possible thing!

Dude. DUDE. I saw this in my stacks of watch messages and my eyes bugged out and I actually yelled "Escher!"
The execution is pretty good, too. Maybe the joints in the thumb are a little long, but you did great with the curve perspective!
Did you set a time limit for yourself on it? Because this is one of those things you could do for days and days.

I tried a 'curvilinear persepective' for the first time to make the distortion. Here's where I learned about it: [link]
So I ended up with like 7 vanishing points. It was way confusing

That was totally amazing and so original, the "fish eye" effect in the sphere's reflection was awesome, and the hand looks great. Well done!
