Yes, many do! And I can tell you from experience that there is nothing quite like it on earth! I wish everyone could! If you're ever in Indiana, you should visit Wolf Park and go howl with the pack! That is quite exciting also!!!!

Ah yes, the big head is how I know who it is! LOL! This is Wotan and his head is especially big! They are big boys, though; don't get me wrong! And yes, they are extremely beautiful! It was also my dream to meet a wolf and now I've done so many times....and the thrill of it never goes away!!! Come visit and perhaps you could meet one too!!!

As you can tell, it was quite windy this day. But yes, they do still have their winter coats on so they are quite full and fluffy! You wanted to wrap your arms around and squeeze but of course that's something that you don't do with a wolf!

No, they live as a regular wolf pack. Their enclosure is quite large and the social ranking is maintained just as it would be if they were living in the wild. Wolf Park is also a wolf research facility. The staff photographer and Wolf Park staff interact with them every day, so they are more or less comfortable with humans. This type of interaction, though, is quite unusual. The staff photographer suggested that we just sit down and see what the pack would do. I was the first one to do so and they came over to "investigate" me. They were gentle with me, although there was some minor growling and dominance/submissive behavior while I was seated there. But no, a pose like this...it just happened! No one can make a wolf do what he doesn't want to do. He just happened to like me, I guess!

If he had wanted to, I suppose he could have. But no, I had no fear. His aggression was with his packmates (what agression there was and yes, there was some dominance fighting this day but it was mild). With me, if you look at the other photos in my gallery, he had sat and sniffed all over my face and investigated me and then kissed me right before this shot was taken. Could he have bitten me at any time? Sure. Was I ever fearful that he would? NEVER! I was completely and thoroughly enjoying these moments to the max!!!!

One thing you are VERY much aware of when you are in with the wolves is the fact that these are NOT tame creatures. In fact, it really makes me mad when I hear people say: "Oh, so they're tame then." No wolf is ever tame! All you have to do is look in their eyes and you are very well aware that you are in the presence of a wild animal. Seminar participants go through an extensive program of wolf behavior and how to "read" a wolf before you are ever allowed into their enclosure. So, yes I am always VERY aware of who I am with and I know the risk that I'm taking when I do this. But animals can also "read" a human as well and they sense if you feel fear. I felt none. I wanted very much to be with them and did not feel threatened by them at all, even when earlier that day I got body-slammed and knocked down. That was just wolfy behavior! Not threatening wolfy behavior; there is a difference.

Well, I can honestly say there isn't anything like it! This was my 4th time doing this and I'm hoping to go in with the pack again in the spring if I can afford it. Say, come visit Indiana and you can do it too!

My handsome big boy! I like to think he's smiling! This was all solely on HIS terms! I did nothing...I didn't "guide" his head (LOL! you don't "guide" a wolf's head for ANYTHING!!!), so this is how HE wanted it to be! Now doesn't that makes it a hundred times sweeter???
