When I first saw this picture I thought it was a shot of Thekkady. But yes, it is a beautiful image and yet somber piece.

A very powerful image that you've taken. I love how stark the scenery is. You've done a good job of conveying that feeling to the viewer through the use of high contrasts. This is wonderful

sad
wonderfully captured
can't look at this too long
submit this to National Geographic, show the world ... look at this mess, look at the death of an entire forest ... things like this are always happening, various countries ...
why spend billions on a dam, destroying so much, when the same amount can be spent to develop new cleaner technology to use as a safe power source?

That's gorgeous.. reminds me of a shot that I wanted to take (never got a chance to) I was in an area where there had been a forest fire, and right next to the road for about 200 yards were all these charred trees, completely bare and such.. and behind them was this lush, green forest. It was really eerie, but still, really cool. I looove this picture! +fave from me!

Is this a result of the Narmada Valley 'Development Project'?
Oh - I just read one of the comments you posted earlier - so it is...

gudus In reply to PLA2 [2004-09-01 08:16:40 +0000 UTC]

no its not the 'narmada' project, but as i said, the story remains the same. this is the 'balimela hydro power project' in orissa.

wow, great shot. this really brings into perspective the destruction of man and at what cost things are developed

yes, is it really inevitable that to create one must first destroy?

wow, thats sad that people could let something like that happen... very sad.
i enjoy how the trees are completely black in the whole grey scene, your b&w pictures are great , i just wish they were bigger to see more detail

gudus In reply to sunsetseason [2004-08-25 15:48:54 +0000 UTC]

yes its quite bizarre, but thats the price some people have to pay towards the 'development' of a 'developing' nation.
and it isn't only forests that get submerged, people's land, houses, farms. it's a story often repeated.
