Description Ah gawd this is getting addictive. Drawing from semi-imagination with 101 references, I mean.

Also I am so goddamn proud of myself for moving away from grids, like woahh I deserve a medal or something

This is a continuation of this scene: [link] . Sorta. John Watson: the man who acts first and asks questions later. Yep. Oh and I think it's very obvious I'm not as familiar with Martin's face as Benedict's, sigh.

4B mechanical pencil on A4 drawing paper, ~ 3hours. Again, sorry for the horrible photo quality and bad, bad lighting. Night time lighting never makes anything look good.

Dear Guns:

This is Indy. Yuletide greetings from Canada!!!

Getting perfection in John's face is like getting to Carnegie Hall---practice, practice, practice! You can actually read the thoughts going through the good doctor's head: "You pretend you're dead for three years, and you expect me to welcome you back with open arms?"

I agree with Iris94 in saying that this is a stunning work, and that it's going in my faves gallery.

Keep up the good work, kiddo!!

                                                                                    Believing in Sherlock Holmes always,

                                                                                    Indy.

*Punch him! Punch him!*
Sorry, got a little carried away there... Uh...Where was I? Oh, right the picture...
What can I say? It's stunning!

You say it's just after they hug and Sherlock (probably) tries to act cool and hide his tears, but the way I see it, this could just as well be the second before John gives his friend a (well deserved) punch in the face, resulting in that tiny wound and Sherlock hugging John to apologise for deceiving him.
(Oh gosh, sorry, I'm over-analysing and making things up now. I think I've finally succumbed to the fandom...)

Anyways: Awesome drawing!

Thanks I guess it's really up to the viewer the order in which the punch and hug combo happens - I think the fandom has no trouble agreeing that they both will happen, anyway... I couldn't quite decide on John's expression (they are so difficult to do!) so I left it a bit ambiguous... sorta angry but a little bit stunned at the same time. He could be asking, "Why?" or "Sherl-?" before/after the punch. I just happened to draw this after the hug drawing, haha.

Actually, though, I have no trouble imagining John going, "Why-? No, hold on - it was Moriarty, wasn't it?" Figuring it out on his own. Because never in a million years would he ever believe that Sherlock would take his own life unless under duress. Then a plea: "Tell me what happened..."

Oh, indeed. I agree completely. John's very clever, and though he may be a bit confused, he can't seriously think his closest friend would just take his own life like that. He must know, deep down, that Sherlock will come back. He just pretends not to know. Or something along those lines.
And of course, the punch and hug have to happen. What better way to reunite the friends than to get all the emotional stuff out of the way? :3

Makes you wonder if Sherlock was close enough to hear John's tombstone speech.

Sherlock: I did this for you, John. 'Don't be dead', remember?
John: Shut up, Sherlock.

Haha.
I hope he was...
It'd be so much fun if they actually said something like that. I imagine John just muttering the last bit, considering whether to punch him again or to forgive him and be nice.
