Humhum, you're right! When people compliment each other it often comes with a reason, e.g. because you really like that person, or wants something in return, or just fish for compliments yourself XD
and because it often comes with a reason, the one recieving the compliment also think it comes with a reason, and if people compliment because they "just felt to", it could become weird or something ;O

I think people should stop reading between the lines when it comes to compliments.

Ulterier motives definitely come into play when paying compliments.

I do though think it's natural for us to read between the lines, if we didn't, then when there WAS an ulterior motive we would be quite naive to the fact, wouldn't we?
