Description
How long was itBefore it felt natural to hold her hand?
Before you began to expect to feel her there in the night?
Before that picture of her was your screensaver?
How long was it
Until you knew you loved her?
Until that one night in paradise was a lifetime?
Until your life was hers?
How long was it
Until the ring felt right on your finger?
Until you always knew the moment she would be home?
Until your house was your home?
How long was it
Before you fought every day?
Before the night was cold in anger?
Before you began to doubt that this was a good idea?
How long was it
Before you realized she was everything?
Before you begged her to forgive you?
Before "I love you" was a plea not to leave?
How long will it be
Until you're all right again?
Until you're back where you belong?
Until there are no strings attached?

Wow. I love the way this piece develops, from the childlike love of dating in the first stanza, to the more mature love that comes from weathering troubles together in the last.

Thank you. I actually never read the poem in that light before, but you're right. It does work out that way. Thank you!
