What do I look like to other people?
When I see other people
Who fall into a stereotypical categories
Sometimes I can see me in them.
Tired med students
With circles under their eyes
Who look listlessly at the route
They're taking to their next class.
I'm tired like they are.
I wander like they do.
Am I one of them?
Or this morning
When the jocks walked out
On their way to their morning practice
Wearing comfortable sweatpants
And worn, tennis shoes
Looking tired but determined
To reach their goals.
I look down and see my sweats
My comfortable tennis shoes
And I hope I look as determined
As they do this early in the morning.
Am I one of them?
I am probably not one of any of them.
I probably don't belong to any group
With a delineation that people
Can readily understand.
I have blurred so many lines
By my nature already
That I doubt anything can change
And make me a member of a normal group.
