I've never played Go but have heard that it is a lot like Othello. Funny the shape of those game pieces has me craving M&M's.

I decided to take some photos of my go-board as well for a project at school and I love the way you've done yours. the problem is : my pictures have to be rather documented than staged which is harder than it might sound.
very nice picture !

Nice Board, and awesome capture of those beautiful Tsuki white stones...
But hey... white needs a to do some life and death exercises...
Overall, love the image.

Oooo. Are those real slate and shell stones? I really rather like that they're sort of scattered around, rather than resting on the points. And the shadows, they just look so nice (because they're about the same size as the stones perhaps?). Very nice!

Yep, these are a shell and slate set on a nice 3cm board. Nicer than my own set, which is merely glass and slate. I took some shots with them in "believable" shape, but preferred the random layout better-- nobody nitpicks the joseki.

What a groovy close-up shot. The pieces you've shot almost look like different materials, though I imagine they're both glass of a type (?). I like how they contrast not only in color, but also how one set has shine and slight swirls, and the other a dull buff and solid color. Far cry from my old plastic red and black checker pieces.
Being the uncultured heathen that I am, I first heard about this game through a friend of mine. He was describing to me a comic wherein the game of Go is played...in an extremely dramatic manner. The idea amuses us both.

Well, you've heard of Go, that's culture enough for me. And about the different materials, the black stones are Japanese Slate, and the white stones are the crafted from the shell of a particular type of oyster... I forget which type. Should you wish more specifics, wiki it
