Great tutorial! I just don't really understand steps 5 and 6.
I made kanzashi once with clay but I used a different flower pattern.

oh wait... you said with clay not fabric... hmm...
here is a tutorial made by . she gives a really good explanation of making the fabric folds so this might help you understand my steps a little better.

What I understand is that you're folding an extra semifold so that there is an extra 'bubble fold' in the centre of the petal, yes?

HanaClayWorks In reply to Firnheledien [2007-07-11 14:55:54 +0000 UTC]
i suppose... i'm not sure what you mean when you say "bubble" fold though. could you elaborate on that?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Firnheledien In reply to HanaClayWorks [2007-07-12 09:51:02 +0000 UTC]
Because when you said in step 5 to fold the triangle in half, you're not really making a true fold, just a bubble/ crease that forms when you finally make the true fold (the triangular points together).
Ergh... @_@

hehe yes, exactly.
sorry... i just wasn't sure what a bubble fold was.

well if you've made kanzashi before, then i guess i can clear this part up by saying that it's similar to folding the fabric in half after you have folded it into a triangle.
to make a fabric kanzashi, you take a square, fold it in half diagonally, then fold it in half again. step 5 is the same as that second folding of the fabric in half.
step 6 is a new step for the clay because clay, of course, doesn't fold like fabric. in this step, you just want to push the edges of the clay so that it sort of curves forward. this makes it so that once you go on to the next steps, you don't get a flat, pointy edge, but rather a curved, round edge.
i hope that helped! let me know if you have any more problems and i'll see what i can do with clearing it up some more!
