Description
Yonwei's mother had never meant to have children. She was a traveler, most at home on the road. She had never meant to stay in Wynsiph long, but a few bad decisions and a night in the Rattle's Rest had landed her the title of 'ma' to a bouncing baby boy. The father well, she never saw him again. She was never sure why she kept the egg. Perhaps her maternal instincts had kicked in, or perhaps she just felt too guilty leaving a child to the same fate she'd been given when she was younger. Either way, she struggled to raise him in a lovely house closer to the outskirts of town.
One day, while Yonwei was playing he heard his mother calling him inside. Curiously, he abandoned his games and joined his mother inside. He was immediately presented with a red band similar to one she wore around her waist.
"Take this, kiddo," she said, "It will keep ya warmer durin' the cold months."
Hesitantly, Yonwei slipped the band over his head and around his neck. It fit perfectly. His mother smiled down at him. "Ya look like a lil gentleman," she told him.
Yonwei smiled back up at her. He adored this band, and made a promise to himself to care for it forever.
-
Spites, spites were everywhere, overrunning the house. Yonwei heard his mother's panicked cries for him, but he was far too scared to move, electing to hide under a dresser instead.
She gave up on him. Yonwei heard her flee out of the door as his home was overtaken by spites. He knew then that he was going to die there.
-
Yonwei awoke to someone carrying him. It was not his mom. Noticing he was awake, the stranger cooed and murmured comforting words to him. Though this did not make Yonwei feel better, he was too tired to struggle and allowed them to carry him all the way to the nook where he was passed off to the nook mother.
He seemed fine physically, but was quite distant socially. He didn't want to talk, nor did he want to play. He just sat staring out the window all day thinking.
His mother had abandoned him when he needed her the most. The small wyngling couldn't help but feel a rising bitterness in his heart. He looked down at the little red band she had given him. A symbol of her love and care. Something that was now gone. For a moment he was tempted to rip it, but refrained. It would serve as a painful reminder of her abandonment. How easily she had done so.
Yonwei refused to let that happen to him again. He made the decision right then and there that he would leave the nook. He no longer wanted to rely on someone else to support him, not is mother, not Alma, no one. He would take care of himself, and he would help anyone else who had been thrown away like he had to find their own way too.
This was the path he had chosen.

here we go, Yonwei's plot begins. And so, the King of Thieves is truly born.
