Description ok so i have been trying to cram as much info about blender's cycle render system into my head in order to get a better final image out of my 3d models. this experiment has no re-sculpt in zbrush nor any subdivision modifiers or textures. i just wanted to see how the lighting would look in blender cycles

Dope!
Where did you get the models?

Daz. these are gen1 now they are up to gen 4 (though they call it 8) and the topology and rigging is a major improvement

the genesis series is completely free for the base set so i would just grab a bunch of the free stuff first and play around with it

I've been trying for 2 hours now.
How do you import the models into blender?

in daz load up a figure you want to transfer.  make sure to dial up all the morphs you want in blender so they transfer over.  then go to file and click export.  change the file type to Collada as this will give you all the bones too. in the advanced settings make sure collect maps and "merge materials by diffuse map" are both checked.  this will collect all your diffuse maps and merge the material sets by UV islands so it will be a lot easier to attach textures back to the model

Nice but cycles has much greater capability than this, with material shaders, HDRIs and the use of maps this could look extremely realistic, but great work anyway

You're doing much better then me. I table flipped my laptop and walked away plenty of time because I couldn't take cycles.

Nope, which is probably why it crashed on me.

For more interesting lightning, try "world tab" - color -> sky-texture and adjust the ball under it. Should create some nice daylight scenes for you pretty easily.

Ah. Okay. Just some color variation around the characters could have been nice, like, some dim lights around them. Oh well you do as you please.
