Description
I want to learn how to draw 3 dimensional fur cause I really like how it looks but it's the most challenging technique (next to water/bubbles) I've ever had to learn! >w<ΒThis is the best I've done since trying to learn this technique but I'm still not satisfied with it. I know most people tend to do cell-shading type techniques but I wanted it to be soft like the rest of the shading.
To What could a beginner like me do to get the hang of this fur texture technique while giving it a soft look. Does it have to be cell-shaded or can I soft shade the fur? I'm hoping I could use a similar technique with the lighting as well. I'm not looking to make it SUPER realistic just enough to make the fur pop a bit.

Ok let's do dis :
1) Colors : some are a bit too flashy/saturated (I can understand where it comes from, dA is known for neon green pets with light yellow paws)
Β For instance : the purple-ish shadow is too saturated, too light.Β
2) The fur needs to be defined everywhere, not just some parts like the tail, if you want the viewer to really feel believable. If you want it "to look 3D" as you said, it needs to bend/follow the character's body.
3) You seem to use the soft brush a bit too much
Verdict : 7/10. I can do a drawing aside if you want to see what I mean.

Fur looks cool! I'm not any professional or anything, but I'd suggest to "hide" (?) A little the aerograph (?) (I'm not sire what's its name) by doing a bit more of fur.
I have a drawing with a similar technique in my gallery, maybe you could check it out and if you like it I can tell you how to do it

It was just a little doodle for me to practice this new fur shading technique but I can't ever do anything too simple and made a whole little creature, thank you by the way. ^W^
