Description There was so much anticipation, tension, anxiety, curiosity and hype outside the foaling barn the night Yomi popped. Most of the Double Dance staff – even the trainers and some exercise riders down from the track – had decided to pull an all-nighter together around the firepit, and be there when their first Zebra gave birth to the famed golden stud's foal.
In the wee hours of the dark morning, the on-hand veterinarian finally shoved the stable door open and, with all eyes immediately narrowing down on him, he grinned broadly.

"It's a girl," he smirked, while clasping his afterbirth-drenched hands together.

Momentarily, there was a wave of muttering and happy glances being exchanged, before the small throng settled.

"And...?" a young working-student suddenly asked somewhat meekly, a crisp hotdog bun clenched in her hand. Everyone had the same question rolling around in the heads.
"And?" echoed Dr. Adonis, raising a suspicious eyebrow.
"Is it... y'know. albino, or whatever?" quickly replied the teen, as though it were the most obvious and important of matters.
"Well... take a look for yourself!" he chuckled, in that rich Greek accent of his.

Sure enough, the filly bore her sire's soft, faded, sandy-hued stripes, which cascaded down her body.
And, she grew up to be quite the looker, to boot. Not much unlike her father in coloring, Backslide also inherited most of her dam's build and type. And, those eyes.. Like the open sky on a cloudless June morning.

Her training was also a rather unique endeavor for the Double Dance staff, once the time arose.
Most of the wild breeds on the ranch – namely, the Mustang herds and the Zebras – were rarely even broken in. In fact, most of them resided in the endless lush pastures like some BLM ferals claiming the lands as their own and barely ever encountering a fence.
Yet, the blond bombshell showed much promise, particularly once matured. She not only had an ideal build and mindframe, but was quite intelligent, full of goodwill, and relatively calm for Zebra.

After a few years of constant work, Backslide could be longed almost flawlessly, with her hinds engaged beautifully underneath her, her head neatly propped perpendicularly to the ground, her mouth chewing the gentle snaffle lightly, her body incurved around the lunger, and her neck craned in a perfect arch. She had gained a real muscle mass over the years, and also developed an outstanding topline for a Zebra.

Perhaps, one day, the young daughter of MoonWalk would actually be able to be ridden and even shown publicly? Only time would tell for sure.

-----

Man, this took forever.

Also, I know... Crap story is crappy. D: But, oh well.
Point is: MW x Yomi kid!! HOMG. Remember those two luuurvebirds? I think they made a great pair!

By the way, the invisible lunger is behind her... yeah. And, I know she has no reins. I'm not good enough yet to draw rolled up reins. x.x
Also, I'll try to shade her if I find the time/motivation at some point.. Shading is quickly becoming the most tedious and least fun part of my art, I think. *sigh*

Please no critique.

D.O.B.: 04/19/2005
Breed: Plains Zebra
Sire & Dam: MoonWalk x DD Ayomide
Phenotype: White striped golden (aka "blond ")
Eyes: Icy blue
Passable Traits: Recessive 'golden' gene and eye color (15%); small stature (60%); good conformation (50%); personality (25%).
Height: 13.2hh
Build: Excellent conformation for the breed, well proportioned, pretty straight legs, extremely sturdy and well-shaped hooves, an elegant head, intelligent eyes, and decent musculature for a youngster.
Breeder/owner/trainer: *Hazel-rah of Double Dance .
Temperament: Amazingly, just as a first-generation foal from our import line, she's showing much promise. She's incredibly curious of her surroundings and the people handling her, day to day. She sometimes takes after mum, and spooks for nonsensical reasons, but with a lot of regular and persistent handling, training, sacking out, patience, and time, she's progressing beautifully. She's not scared of humans anymore, and before being broken in, she could do most basic things (trim, float, load, halter, clip, lead, back, etc.) much better than some of our other young horses.
Discipline(s): Is still being broken in.
History: Born at DD stables.
Offspring: N/A
Restrictions: Must be bred to realistic colored, pure Zebra studs only (DevNote me to discuss otherwise.)
Availability: Currently unavailable for private leases.

Hiya :3
I just wanted to let you know =crystal-breath & I are running and we are trying to find the few Zorses & Zebras around the HARPG community & trying to let them grow. We have a credit point system, registries, free imports and an ID system to keep track of how much the breed grows. We'd love for your horse to be added to our registry (and others if you have them! ). If you are interested, please check out the group and note us so we can add your horse on the list .

This reminded me of a dream I had. Part of the dream involved a drowned albino zebra with its head sticking out of a basement drain hole. Then a vet kneeled next to it and ministered to it while the ghost of the zebra (which was not an albino) stood next to it and talked to the vet. His voice was like Charlie the unicorn's voice.

The dream also involved Wes Studi talking to a girl (she was taking a shower) and a simultaneous time stream thing of a college frat party/shower scene..involving burning hamburgers...

For some reason all three scenes were in the same basement/shower.

I've been told that this dream makes no sense what so ever.

first off, I never knew there were zebras like this! I guess it makes sense, there are albinos in everything, but thanks so much for putting color refs up, they are so pretty! I love the way you drew her mane, really cute. well overall she's a cute zebra

Yeah, they're super interesting. Some have their stripes really pale, like an almost off-white sandy shade, and others have almost orange-y gold stripes. I'm not entirely sure whether it's actual albinism (because there's still blue pigment in the eyes and whatnot, so I doubt it is..) or leucism, or something else entirely. But, either way, as you said, very pretty.

Thanks! ^^

Shhhhush, you! In November..
I tend to prioritize the breedings/foalings of mares I lease from other breeders, not the stallions I use. I think it's 'cause I don't want to hog the mare from the owner for long, whereas studs can be bred whenever, hehe. So, Yomi kept this kid in the oven for a while.

Lol, anyway, thanks!

Please, please get rid of those watermarks. They're so insanely visible and all over the drawing that they're just annoying me to such an extent that I'm not even focussed on the drawing anymore.

Seriously. One little line over the leg is enough.

JNFerrigno In reply to CaraidArt [2010-01-13 20:50:24 +0000 UTC]

In the years of me being on DA, I truly believe the only people who complain about water marks are those that are out to steal them. Anyone with a good eye can look past a water mark.

CaraidArt In reply to JNFerrigno [2010-01-13 21:19:53 +0000 UTC]

Watch what you are saying. Have a look at my comments, and my page. Do I look like an art thief to you? Do you honestly think you can judge me by the mere fact that I think this beautiful piece of artwork should not be ruined by excessive watermarking? I've been on DA for five years, longer than yourself, and if there's anything I've noticed in this community, it's people being overly defensive over their works and styles. That, and they sure love drama on this site.

Be careful with your accusations. Comments like the one you just made do nothing but make enemies. I understand you're trying to speak up for the artist, but I think she's doing fine arguing against me on her own.

JNFerrigno In reply to CaraidArt [2010-01-13 21:27:17 +0000 UTC]

Speaking of judging, LOL. This is my second account. You comparing how long you've been on here is like me comparing our age differences. In the end we'd both end up with egg on our face. You comment about how the community loves drama, but did you happen to overlook you're contributing posts in this discussion? Either way, that’s what my experience has been with people requesting me not to post water marks. Now does this discussion have to continue, certainly not.

CaraidArt In reply to JNFerrigno [2010-01-13 21:44:06 +0000 UTC]

Your comment to me struck me as very offensive. You were blatantly accusing me of possibly being an art thief, because according to you and your experience it's such people who ask for watermarks to be taken down. Me saying how long you've been on here according to the DA stats has got nothing to do with judging. Nor me comparing who of us has been around here longer. But you apparently thought that stating your experience on this site somehow strengthened your argument, so I did the same.

I never started any discussion, it never was a discussion and still isn't. You felt it was necessary to reply to my comment, and so did I. And that's all.

I'm simply someone who loves and appreciates art and that's all there is to me. We just share different opinions on whether and how one should oppose or prevent theft.

Hazel-rah In reply to CaraidArt [2010-01-13 18:41:25 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, but nope. I'm fed up of art thieves shamelessly stealing my work from under my nose.
I know it distracts, it takes away from the whole piece, it's ugly, and seems useless, but I'd rather have cranky watchers than my art being copied, stolen, reposted, sold, etc. across the Web without my knowing.
During the most recent case of art theft towards my art, the thief took my drawing and actually colored over the watermark that had been placed in the center of the horse (just one line, as you suggested.) Needless to say, I have to go to super extremes, for prevention..
It's either faded text over the entire image, or a huge, very dark and bold watermark over the whole horse.

CaraidArt In reply to Hazel-rah [2010-01-13 18:49:44 +0000 UTC]

If people truly want to steal your work, they will. Heck, I've seen people trying to sell art by impersonating the artist thus not having to remove the watermark or signature.

I don't really see the point in getting upset over someone copying or reposting your art because both of those can be done in spite of your watermark. As said, if they truly want to sell it, they'll find a way as well.

Your watchers will know it is your art and still love you for it and no-one else. Why annoy exactly those people rather than simply dealing with the art thieves in private?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hazel-rah In reply to CaraidArt [2010-01-13 19:16:32 +0000 UTC]

I won't reply after this comment, because I don't want to blow this out of proportion, since it's clearly an argument based on personal values/preferences, and it'll just go nowhere.

Yes, that's true. Yet, to be honest, the majority of art thieves won't bother impersonating an artist, since most people know who's who, if the original artist is relatively known by a few people. Also, a small copyright symbol beside the hoof of a horse is a LOT easier to edit out or simply crop out (any brainless thief can do that in MS Paint) than full-blown watermarks covering the majority of a whole drawing. The only thing thieves can do with this piece is trace it, I think. And, well, the only thing I can do to prevent that would be to not post art on the Internet, lmao. So, I opt for heavy watermarking, since it deals with at least one type of art thief. It's my way of protecting myself. *shrug*

As for them wanting to sell this piece in spite of the watermarking, I think it'd be hard to sell, considering (as you said), that it's overly busy and distracting with the watermarks. If the thief would try to sell this to someone with a fraction of a brain, that buyer would probably ask for a version with less to no watermarks, and the sale then just wouldn't happen, because who wants a drawing littered with random text on it?

About the watchers. Actually, not really. Not all my watchers watch every artist on the planet, lol. And, on the flip side, not everyone knows my art, either, so I can't assume that everyone's "watching my back" or whatever. A lot of thieves sometimes go unnoticed. Many times, I've had a friend PM me about my art being stolen on a random website somewhere, from months or years ago.

And, for the record, it may not seem exactly nice, but I don't draw for my watchers' pleasure. I love reading their comments and whatnot, evidently. And I appreciate them for those things, but if they get grouchy because I'm trying to protect my work, maybe they shouldn't watch me?

Dealing with the thieves in private? Heh, why not try to prevent things beforehand, rather than wait until it happens and try (often fruitlessly) to deal with the thieves that I'm informed of? And, what of those who are perhaps roaming with art they stole from me, and who just go unnoticed because those thieves' watchers don't know of my art?

CaraidArt In reply to Hazel-rah [2010-01-13 21:13:29 +0000 UTC]

Mmh guess we're just on a completely different page there. As you can see with my works, I barely watermark my images and in some cases I don't watermark them at all. Most of them are easy to steal.

I have had one case of theft, a few years ago. Someone took a picture of mine and claimed it as their own. I contacted the moderator of the site, reported the theft and the artist's account got taken down. And that was it. None of my works have ever been stolen since, not that I know of anyway, and if they were, I wouldn't make too big a deal out of it.

The main reason why I don't is because whoever steals my work and claims it as their own can do so, but to what cause? Pretend they're me, and get praise for something they didn't do? That's something that'll bore them quickly. Even so, the comments they get, the compliments, the praise, they're all directed to me. Indirectly, but they are and I read them as such.

If someone tried to sell my work, this has never happened and I doubt it will, but if someone did, I'd go about it the same way as always, send someone with the right powers on that site a message and have it taken down. But, as said, I never had this happen to me and perhaps it has happened, perhaps it's happening now, but I really don't care. I don't go about looking for people who might've stolen my artwork. I draw because I want to get better, because I want to eventually get a career in art. Popularity, on whatever site, will help me there. I do draw for my watchers. I don't let them shape or affect my work, but do draw for them. If I didn't, I wouldn't even bother posting my artwork on this site. Which kind of makes me wonder why you do, if all you're posting your work for is to get a bit of praise and that's it. Obviously, since anyone who crits on your work or tells you something they don't like about it should not watch you, as you just said.

This'll be my final word as well. I just think it's a huge shame to see such beautiful artwork get so ruined by excessive watermarking. Your art is your art and will always be your art, whether someone takes it or not. The emotional bond you have with your art will never be topped by anyone and you should realise this.
