I really like this, it looks almost like a pencil sketch. The composition, tone and colour all work really well. This is great work, well done

thank you so much!

i maintain that the whole driving force behind what i do is that i wish i could draw or paint. maybe in my next life.

Why wish you could draw or paint when you obviously have talent with a camera! I can draw and paint but im not much of a photographer

dont get me wrong, i enjoy what i do. but ive always really wanted to be able to put my hand down and make something beautiful come entirely from it. i used to draw when i was younger, but i dont have the patience to work on it and get better. but i think in many respects it is the most pure of all art forms, and takes the most mastery.

also, as photographers go, im quite amateur myself. im very good at the postprocessing, but i still very much rely on taking millions of pictures to get the one that looks good. one of my roommates does professional wedding photography and it is shocking, the things he knows that i dont. ive only just barely started working with cameras that actually require you to know what youre doing, and its quite a learning curve, haha.

I understand. Well i guess you have to work at it if you really want to draw. Draw a lot of sketches, draw things from imagination, try and go with the flow so you dont lose patience? Its a shame that thats the thing stopping you because id like to see some now.

Wow H, where do I start?
I never really had a thing for plant life until I look at your deviations.
I always love the textures you use, but more than that I love the color tones that you use with your textures.
It's not white, it's not grey, it's not a black and white. It's some dreamy color that adds a lot of depth.
If you can make sense of what I just wrote then you get a star.

thank you so much!! thats a beautiful compliment.

the colors are usually all from the textures...i often desaturate the original file (although this one i didnt, these leaves actually were black and white, they looked very strange, almost like someone spraypainted one side of them)...its amazing how much color detail you can pull out of totally random things, like the sides of buildings, or the sidewalk. putting about four layers of concrete on top of each other will give you unbelievable color nuances.
